Hi Alicia, it’s great to have you here Alicia: Thanks, It’s great to be here.
So you released the long awaited first single from your second album one week ago and it went straight to number 1, how did that feel? Alicia: It was such an incredible feeling, I mean I’ve been there before with Close To Tears but it’s a totally different feeling when you do it with your own song. And I think I’ve said time and time again that I believe Clichés Come Easy is the best song I’ve ever written, so to have it go to number is such a great feeling, I’m so happy about it.
And how did you celebrate the success? Alicia: I didn’t do much party-ing, I had a drink or two with some friends in New York and then I went home and fell straight asleep. I don’t really live the life of a 21st Century popstar, I’m just very vanilla.
What do you mean by Vanilla? Alicia: I’m a pretty basic person, I don’t think I’m boring but I like the simple things in life. I’m not one to go paragliding over the Grand Canyon. Most of my life is very much work oriented.
And is your worth ethic a blessing or a curse? Alicia: Haha, I’d say it’s a blessing, others may disagree. I’m a very hard worker, if I’m not working then I’m thinking about working. I can let my hair down every now and then but most of the time I’m just working, working, working.
And does this effect your love life? Alicia: What love life? … Yeah, I guess it does. I’ve not really had time to think about it really. I’ve spent almost 2 months in either the record studio in Los Angeles or the record studio in Paris. I wanted to put my absolute all into this new album and hopefully I’ve created something that people will enjoy. I’ll start to think about having a love life when I’m not working.
And how would you say this album will differ from your previous effort? Alicia: It’s much better on all levels. The first album, I was new to everything that was going on and the music was very much pop music, which I don’t have a problem with but it didn’t really show off who I was as an artist, this record is as close to me as you can get without me actually being in the room. It’s so much better than the first record, it’s still a pop record but the RnB, Soul and Blues influences are so much more clear in this record. I think it’s a better mix too because I think some of the songs have a clear electro feel to it, particularly the tracks produced by Will.Rocca. But I think this is the best record I’ll make.
And what about your plans once the album is released? Alicia: I’m gonna be embarking on a huge world tour, I’m very nervous about it but I think it’s gonna be an incredible experience for me.
And how long will the tour be? Alicia: It begins on May 4 in New York and ends on September 1 in Tokyo. But we’re arranging a farewell leg of the tour in the UK and USA which could take us up to December or even 2012. It’s going to be a very long tour but it’s gonna be worth it and I also wanted to give people a great time before I take a bit of a break.
A break, how long will that be for? Alicia: Well I haven’t set a specific time limit, but I think it’s important for me to take a little bit of time out after this upcoming touring cycle is over. I’d imagine it wouldn’t be more than two years but we’ll just have to wait and see, who knows, I may get bored and decide to return after a month or so but I doubt that.
Well I’m sure you’ll deserve the time off Alicia: Thanks, Since I recorded my debut album it’s been all about my music career so I think it will be time for me to focus on myself and I’ve got some outside projects I’d like to work on during my time off from music.
And finally, what are your plans for the next couple of weeks. Alicia: It’s all mainly just promotional stuff for the album and single so it will be more interviews and stuff for a couple of weeks. The album will be out on April 3, so I’ll be preparing for that. Although next weekend Hannah Beth is coming out to New York and we’re gonna be spending the weekend together, relaxing, shopping and stuff which I’m looking forward to.
Well thanks for your time and we wish you the best of luck with the record and tour. |
