Renee: I hate looking at the progression of this album because it just reminds me how much I want it. I'd have to say that behind Black Gold Reign, MIND was the band that made us start it all. It's interesting watching you pull yourself from the 'wreckage' so to speak of your old band and move to make your own name. Can't wait for the release and if you decide to say throw a party for it, you can expect me and the rest of the gang to be there.

Thank you all! I hope that the rest of this album will be as satisfying. Now this track, you've already heard. Just to drill it into your brain, here's Frown Upon.

9. Frown Upon (3:43) (Post-Rock/ Alternative Rock)

A spacey, eerie guitar plays slowly at the start of the song, shrouded beneath ambient effects that fill it with a sense of mystery. An electronic, synthesized drum then plays quietly in the background, but it is still audible enough to be heard beneath all of the sonic noise above it. Eventually, the ambient effects die down and the drums become louder. The guitar remains at a steady pace still, although that will soon change. The riff itself is sporadic and constantly changing, almost like an extremely slow solo. After this carries on for about 20 seconds or so, an actual drum and bass fly in quickly, with the guitar now playing a faster, anthemic alternative rock riff. This sets the basis for the verses of the song. Once the vocals appear, they are high-pitched and dramatic, and at the strongest they’ve ever been. The “not anymore” to “This life is love inside my head” part is a different riff, with a dark, yet funky ska-like riff being played on the rhythm guitar, and the lead guitar playing frantic, technical arpeggios. It then returns abruptly to its original state, except with the lead guitar playing the solo from the beginning, leaving the rhythm to play the riff. After that, the penultimate segment appears. For this, the whole of the song is compressed and reversed into a few seconds, before it goes into a slower, doom-like and atmospheric guitar piece. The words here are sung solemnly above it. It then cuts out into an ambient piece, with the last line being spoken over it by Jason and then a high pitched, almost screech-like laughter.

This time I go into a new life,
Thinking about the ones before,
Karma, religion, it’s all true, I guess,
Since I can now experience it first hand.

I don’t care if you sing my words,
I won’t lie if you bounce along,
I seriously couldn’t care less,
About anyone other than myself.

Not anymore,
I can’t feel,
I won’t feel,
This life is love inside my head.

One who has lived life in vanity,
Must take pride in their demise too,
No hyperbole or hypocrisy.
You chose to die, in the end.

I need more now,
Just one more fix,
Then I swear I’ll be done.

Even at the time that the pebbles are being counted out, be not frightened; tell no lies; and fear not the Lord of Death.

Hey, champ! Turn that frown upside-down!

-Eric Quillington

OOC: I've been loving this so far. My favorite part so far is probably the track I wrote for this. Naaaaaah, actually, it'd probably be Opprobrium. Ambient lyrics at their best! :)
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis

(Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk)

Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist
Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo

Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles

(Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.)

This one features the lovely Miss Walton. Let's go!

10. Create a World of your Own (Art Rock/ Neo-Prog) (5:12) [FEATURING STACEY WALTON]

The remnants of the previous song fade out into a complicated and polyrhythmic guitar riff, similar to Two Trees except darker and moodier. This goes on for a few seconds, before a ska-like rhythm riff and a funky drum beat, if you can call it that due to the odd timing patterns. When the vocals come in, they are dual tracked, with Jason’s high voice and his low voice all almagating into one. On the third and fourth lines, a similar effect is used as Stacey Walton joins in affairs, resulting in an unusually catchy quadra-tracked vocal harmony. The rest of the verse is sung in a low, tense voice by Jason with Stacey vocalising on top of it. It all boils down and goes into a twee, dark riff for the second verse. Quite quiet, but you can tell something big is about to happen. It has certain neo-classical properties to it. Violins start to fade in going alongside the riff and the drums get louder and louder until it all breaks in the third part. It turns into a fast paced, thrash metal riff with the drums reminiscent of punk. The vocals are shrieked loudly and Stacey goes back to vocalising again. It then winds down back to what it was like, but with the violins fading out instead and the riff is being played in reverse. The song is a musical palindrome, which is possibly the most pretentious thing Jason Smith has ever done. It then, surprise surprise, bubbles back down into the riff at the beginning, but with a singular and different vocal harmony and the riff is toned down slightly, whilst being played backwards. The last verse is shouted through a microphone and the song then fades into an ambient chill.

The pains stretched through this heart,
And the tears across your soul,
Make a desperate plead for morals to be restored.
And as this throbbing vein,
Lays bloodied throughout your face,
Tongue rests firmly in cheek and love is all lost,
My love is lost.

God sends an angel to collect me,
To a misguided family,
Of brothers who have felt their way through yore,
And do separate us,
If we wish to live,
Because I can’t live with them, or without them,
My love is lost.

And please cry to me...
Cry to me, once more...
Cry to me,
Create a world of your own...

Saw them fly,
Saw them bloom,
I was the part in every ones plan for you,
Now I’m gone,
You won’t miss me,
I won’t miss you,
Not family.

If your world is dead,
You must be creative,
Create a world of your own.

Winston: What Renee said pretty much sums up the rest of the bands thoughts on this. I also have to agree with Erich, money doesn't seem like the right thing to be giving for a tour de force like this.

OOC: I like the number of guests, descriptions, lyrics and diversity of genres with the tracks. I can say I thought Eric would make a guest appearance on this record due to Dividing Divinity and all that, I didn't think Michael Caiff or Stacey Walton would make an appearance on here.

Jason: Thanks dude! Don't worry, money's fine. Very fine indeed.

OOC: Yeah, I initially wanted this to be a big sorta gangbang of musical styles, so I'm glad it's turned out that way. And I wanted as many guests as possible, so that's pretty cool. I mean, with Eric, Eric and Jason are practically best buds, Jason has collaborated with Stacey quite a lot and Michael Caiff and the one remaining guest (who I will keep a surprise) are just good metal artists. Thanks man!

This one's a short, very sharp and chaotic lesson in industrial music. It's from my Mind days, but it's better suited to this environment... not the best track ever, but it'll do.

11. An Insiders Perspective (Electronica/ Industrial Metal) (2:26)

The ambient chill noises soon grow more strained and angry and turn into loud mechanical, industrial ones. A noisy, machine like drum pattern flows into these noises and turns into a rhythm that you can clearly make out. A straight forward industrial metal guitar then comes into play suddenly. Everything turns into a massive wall of sound, with creepy loops and screaming constantly being played in the background. The song isn’t sung so to speak... more spoken in a strained voice. It’s like this the whole way through; with the odd metallic scream at the end of a line, particularly on the last word in each verse. What happens in the background is much more interesting than the song itself really. It’s very jumbled, but if you dissect it, it reveals an unusual layer. There are choirs, violins, Theremin, quiet guitar arpeggios and electronic sequences in it, all pushed back by this blatant layer of noise. This is deliberate though; without it, it would sound even weirder. Towards the end of the song, the choir and orchestral sounds become more frequent and obvious to make out as it fades into Soaked to the Bone subtly. In the background at the end, some more illegible words are spoken.

Throughout this pitiful crime,
Namely this life,
Gargantuan die!

I’m bringing you a view,
A view from me to you,
Prince of amalgam!

Inside the mind,
You may find,
A different view,
This view is mine,
This view is blood,
This view is true.

Yo, it's ya main boi Jase here. We're almost at the finishing line... tomorrow, the album will be finalised and then I'm going to write a little bit about it. For today, here's Soaked to the Bone, actually the first song I wrote for this album.

12. Soaked to the Bone (Heavy Metal/ Art Rock) (4:37)

Jason initiates the song with a slow, moody acoustic guitar riff, reminiscent of classical renaissance music. Quietly, a basic drum pattern and bassline are introduced to go alongside it. The first verse of the song is then sung in a sombre and low tone, and is barely comprehensible as it is mumbled. After that initial verse, a few seconds of a guitar solo over lush ambient noises happens before the song erupts into a much heavier riff that is exactly the same as the acoustic one, except played on majorly distorted guitars. It sounds like a mixture of grunge, Black Sabbath and Shoegaze, except more big, pompous and epic. It is one of the few genuinely heavy metal riffs on the whole album. Another verse then commences, except the vocals are sung hugely in an operatic style with slight screams in the background at the end of each line. This formula is repeated for the next verse. However, it then goes into the bridge/ solo. Once the last verse has been sung, it then changes speed form very slow in a polyrhythmic clusterfuck of guitars and drumming. It does this only for a few seconds, before going back to its original speed in a totally new riff, a bluesy one, complete with a solo to match. The solo is one of the longest on the album, and goes on for about a whole minute and a half. The last part of the song is just chanted over and over again in a mixture of what appears to be nursery rhyme and Gregorian monk style. The song ends by the last part fading out into fast-paced beautiful arpeggios which then are crowded by ambient noises until you can’t hear them. It fades into the next piece.

Look into the eyes of our dying sun,
We all sleep under the light,
Keep tossing and turning,
Good night, good night...

You heave and you puff,
You pant in your endeavour,
The water washes away,
The heart of this cadaver.

The clue is in the serum,
In the cure for mankind,
The pain is as soft as needles.
Sickened of these fuckers...

Dropping the bodies in the water,
Discard your love in the water,
Dropping your body like a martyr,
We are disciples of the water.
Dropping the bodies in the water,
Discard your love in the water,
Dropping your body like a martyr,
We are disciples of the water.
Dropping the bodies in the water,
Discard your love in the water,
Dropping your body like a martyr,
We are disciples of the water.

Can't believe we're here... the end of the album. It's been a tough, emotional ride, but I've really enjoyed doing it and I hope you will enjoy listening to it. Final two songs coming up now, with the second one being an outro. After this, I'm going to write a little bit on why this album is so important to me...

13. Blood Cold Motion Sequence (Experimental Rock/ Progressive Rock) (14:59) [FEATURING MIKE SNEAP of EMPYREUS]

A slow, dirge march on the drums quietly gets louder and louder, until it can be heard clearly. It is similar to the soundtrack in those WWI/II films. This carries on for a while, building up a lot of dramatic tension until a drum solo appears to bring it all crashing down. Once this has happened, it goes back into the march with a loud and sinister guitar riff alongside it. The bass is playing random arpeggios throughout the whole riff here. A crack of thunder rings out every now and then. The riff is actually quite similar to I Want You (She’s So Heavy) by The Beatles mixed with Black Rainbow by Coheed and Cambria. This goes on for about a minute before the vocals finally settle in. Once they do, the background music gets quieter, apart from the drums and the bass, while the guitar is left playing a complicated, yet timid guitar riff, sounding quite Latin in origin. Once the first verse ends, everything fades into an ambient guitar piece. It’s basically a few solitary guitar notes with lots of ethereal and spacey effects surrounding it. In the background, you can hear the static voices saying the next part of the song. This continues for a few minutes, the drums getting progressively faster in the background. The vocals in that segment eventually end, and the whole song turns much faster. The drums are at a galloping pace now, to go perfectly alongside the new western-style riff. Every now and then, there are sporadic bursts of guitar wankery. Another guitar, this time from Mike Sneap enters the song. It is an extremely complicated arpeggio riff mixed with some slides and tapping, similar to the speed metal Jason was once famous for. It then goes much slower, yet louder and a huge guitar duel commences between the three guitarists in the song. This goes on for about 3 minutes with occasional timing and riff changes that spice the song up a bit. This is the sorta thing that is likely to get voted “#1 Solo of the Decade” or whatever. After this shameless showing off has finally finished, it goes back to its initial riff, except even slower and the vocals are in more of a chanted form. This continues for the last two verses, where a subtle scream ends the track vocally. The instrumentation after that takes yet another turn. It goes into a fast, almost poppy riff which has some sinister undertones. Lots of random instruments, such as a sitar, glockenspiel, Theremin and xylophone then make a huge firework display of noise, possibly the loudest throughout the entire album, until it cuts out into ambient noise. For the last 2 minutes or so, mechanic industrial noises make sure that the song connects perfectly into “Heavens Open”.

Is the point of this game to merely survive?
How can it be a living hell when you were never alive?
Stop wasting rhetoric on me though,
You know I’ll never listen.

(It’s not that I hate life,
Just that I don’t get it...
No one is happy until they do,
We seek out more information,
Placing ourselves above our fairy tales,
Not so naive anymore.)

Today is perfect for me,
It won’t get any better,
And I think it suits me rather well.
Today isn’t awful for me,
Still won’t get any better,
And I think it suits me rather well.

Shattered a fairytale, as it may be,
You should stay away from me,
I’m about to go up in flames,
You’ll be scorched by me once again.

I don’t want to be the joker anymore,
I have my own life to live,
Behind this veil of amusement,
I have nothing to give.

14. Heavens Open (Industrial/ Ambient) (1:32)

The mechanic noises subside into the sound of the oceans crashing and a beautiful, intricate acoustic guitar jamming out alongside it. It is very chilled, a sort of rest after the journey that’s been had, especially in the last track. A spacey, new age synthesizer also appears about 30 seconds into the song, giving it a really relaxing feel. Radio sound can be heard and the reprise of harp arpeggios also appear. Suddenly, the wave sounds get louder and a bell is heard ringing. Then, screaming. Not very loud, but screaming nonetheless. A demonic voice saying illegible, strained words in a crying voice appears on top of it, and it all builds up to a loud soundscape. A lone cymbal marks the climax of the music on the album, before the demonic voice laughs and says the sole line throughout the whole song.

[We are more often treacherous through weakness than through calculation.]
What a spoilt little child.
