Further on this topic, I am listening to Katatonia - I Transpire from Last Fair Deal Gone Down. Then after this I'll put on Viva Emptiness, to see which of these two are bleaker. The first A Silver Mt. Zion album He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms..., Swans - Cop and take your pick of the GY!BEs. |

Mr.Bungle-The Air Conditioned Nightmare(Live) they're so much better live! Seriously why don't they have this much energy on the studio version? |

I can't say I've ever listened to anything on California and thought "this needs more energy". But then I tend to rate California rather highly.

Gogol Bordello - Pala Tute Well live it's a lot more chaotic and just awesome, while on the album it's a lot more held back and quiet even on the really loud parts and especially the "Walking on Air" part which is a lot more energetic live and is pretty quiet on the album. |

I think of Mr Bungle as a band that changes their songs live. But I've never seen them or even heard a recording of them live. King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man |

At least tell me you wouldn't change Retrovertigo. I just love listening to the record as a chill out record, sort of thing I'd listen to sat out in the park during a sunny day in the shade of a tree on my iPod while reading a book and eating a banana. |
