NME:Hello guys today I am here with Matt Urie from young band Suburban Sunrise. How are you today Matt?
Matt: Im good thanks
NME: So new album now going to be released on September 4th insted of December 31st. Why did you choose to change the date?
Matt: Well we already had the album mixed and ready for release so we didnt find a reason to really keep the fans waiting for that long. We are also extremly excited for the fans to hear the new album it is totally better then Doesn't Mean It's Legal. Dont get me wrong I loved DMIL and it will always have a special place in my heart because it was our first studio record but our new album is I beleive along with the rest of the band that it is really much better.
NME: Why do you think it is better?
Matt: Well when we went in to record DMIL we were all barely 18 except for Alex who was 17 but we were all just extremly excited to be in a studio and signed to a record label that we didnt take it as seriously as we probably should have. And when we wrote DMIL we only had 10 songs written and boom thats it we're done writing we have the album as in comparisson to the new album we had probably close to 30 songs all together and we recorded all 30 songs and we picked in our minds what the best 14 songs were and decided to put those on the album. And if you pre-order the album you get 3 bonus tracks which were 3 songs that we wanted on the album but didnt make the cut.
NME: Where did you come up with the name Torn, Filthy, Love for this album?
Matt: Nick and I were just hanging out one day thinking of what a goiod name for it should be and just all of a sudden out of nowhere he gets up off his chair and yells "Torn Filthy Love" and I was just like what? And then he said for the album and so thats how we got the name for this album.
NME: What about the name Suburban Sunrise?
Matt: Um well me and my friends were really just jamming we didnt think we would acctually form a band. But one morning I woke up at like 5 in the morning for some reason and I looked out my window and bam! Suburban Sunrise just clicked and I fell in love with the name. So I went and talked it over with the rest of the band and i asked if they wanted to make this into a full time band and everyone agreed to the name so thats what happened.
NME: Is there an upcoming tour anytime soon?
Matt: We have been talking to rock gods "The Bards" about joining them on some of their giant world tour. We definitly want to play alot of that tour but we are signed up for Warped! Tour and I have no idea when thats going to start so we would have to stop the tour with The Bards and go on that. But we are hoping we get the chance to tour with them
NME: Now I dont mean to get into your personal life but recently Stacy Walton announced that you two were no longer dating. Is that true and why?
Matt: Uh ya it is true we were talking and she said that it was hard for her to kinda stay commited due to the fact she lives in London and I live down in San Diego. So she said that it probably wasn't going to work out so I mean im not going to try and convince someone to stay with me if they really dont want to so I told her its up to you and if you dont want to date anymore then we wont. Thats pretty much what happend. Im not going to bash her music or anything cuz she is one hell of a musician its just somethings aren't meant to work out.
NME: Ok well lets get back to music. What is the next single going to be off the album?
Matt: The next single is going to be the song "Vulture." It is all of our favorite song so we decided its a good jam that the kids will like so hell why not.
NME: What is the song about?
Matt: The song is about having a voice in your head that wants you to make all the wrong decions and doesn't want you to make it or succed. Kind of a depressing topic but the song came out great its fast and not very depressing.
NME: Any release date for that song?
Matt: September 3rd. One day before the album.
NME: Well that about it im all out of questions so thanks Matt for being here.
Matt: No problem it was alot of fun.
