I'm flattered, thank you! If you want, I could give you an advance copy of the record during the time I'm helping to produce your album.

Falling from the Sky
(3:58)

Writing/Recording

Initially concieved as a song envisioning a perfect world, the song's meaning became much more complex during the recording sessions of Midnight Skies. Although Falling from the Sky seems like a love song on first listen, it's ideas that even a perfect world has flaws, and can exist only in one's mind, becomes increasingly noticable over time. The evolution from the original concepts to the more detailed album version was a slow process; Quillington went through many drafts of the song, and reportedly almost gave up on the song several times.

Each song has a meaning seperate from the album, as well as a place on the album's storyline as a whole; this song is no different. Problems with Pluto sets up the narrator's state of mind; he believes that the world is an incredibly flawed place. Falling from the Sky shows the narrator using his dreams as an escape from the normal world. In this song, he has a lucid dream, and creates his own version of paradise. He tries to convince himself that he'll be able to stay forever, but slowly comes to the realization that he'll eventually wake up.

Recording this song took almost as long as the writing. While the song was always going to be on the 'Dream' side of the album, Falling from the Sky was percieved as a song with drums, bass, and guitar. Frustrated by how long it was taking to finish the song, and the fact that he couldn't come up with a suitable guitar riff for the song, Quillington convinced Matt to back out of the song, and asked Greg to play glockenspiel. Falling from the Sky marks the first time that Quillington plays no instrument, Greg doesn't play drums, and Matt isn't in the song at all.

The live version of this song is closer to the original concept; it has the same lyrics, but involves all members, and has no glockenspiel.

Song Description/Lyrics

The song is extremely simple; it is driven by a simple glockenspiel riff for the entire song. The sound is very sad, almost mournful, even though the lyrics are (initially) somewhat happy. Sounds of the beach can softly be heard in the background the entire time; waves splashing against the shore, birds chirping, etc. Eric's singing throughout the song is very gentle and sincere-sounding. After the final lines are sung, the glockenspiel cuts out, and sounds of children playing on the beach are heard. Slowly, all voices are cut out. The only sound remaining is a song playing on a radio. The song cuts and skips, creating a very eerie sound. Then that, too, is cut out, leaving only silence for several seconds.

See the water flowing free, stretched across all that can be
We’ll stay here forever
Beauty lies in harmony, something in abundance here
We’ll stay here forever, where the stars are falling from the sky

All the endless days and nights, lying on a beach of gold
Nothing will be lost
Seagulls cry and the wind blows, all without a cloud in sight
Nothing will be lost, yet nothing will be gained

I'll live forever in this perfect light

See the water flowing free, stretched across all that can be
We'll stay here forever
Seagulls cry and the wind blows, all without a cloud in sight
Nothing will be lost, yet nothing will be gained

Deep down, I know
I can't live forever

"The song was originally just me trying to rip off John Lennon's 'Imagine', but the ideas behind it just became so much more cosmic. It's hard to play it live, because I have to pour so much emotion into the words for it to actually work. It sounds so effortless when you hear this song, but it was a serious pain in the ass to make. Despite all the difficulties making it, I still consider this song to be my favorite on the 'Dream' part of Midnight Skies."

Daniel: Man this album is going to help me a lot. Very powerful and inspirational message in this music. Every track description so far has impressed me. I am really connecting with the lyrics of "Problems with Pluto". Cannot wait to hear that. Really nice you guys got some great producers too, so that's awesome and I know the production is going to be stellar. Wish you guys the best of luck with this album and of course it was wonderful working on a track together. Thank God September is not so far away.

OOC: Good job with these RP's. Very impressed by the concepts and the lyrics. You stepped your game up and it's very nice to see RP's like this getting the recognition and the feedback it deserves.

I was really trying to make an effort to have Midnight Skies sound alot more positive than our debut album. When Infinite made our first album, we were in a really dark place, and it kind of affected the sound. Very pessimistic sounding, very negative. In a way, Blue Nebula is about destroying society, and Midnight Skies is helping to rebuild it. I know, weird metaphor. So, it means alot for you to think that it has power and inspirational messages to it, thank you so much!

Thanks! It's really good to know that we aren't losing fans with this album, it kind of shows us that we made the right choice with the deeper meanings in our new songs.

The Infinity Delusion
(5:46)

Writing/Recording
The song's lyrics describe a scientist completely obsessed with mathematically finding a way to reach infinity. By the end of the song, he's being driven insane by the search, and realizes just how pointless it is. Eric used this idea as a metaphor for his own search of god, and the lyrics were some of the most personal (and quickiest) he's ever made.

In the album's storyline, this song is about the narrator's thought process during the dreams. He's realized by now that he'll eventually wake up, and is using the rest of the time in his paradise trying to think things through in his life. He slowly realizes he's like a god, and tries to imagine if this is proof that there actually is one.

During the recording of this song, in order to keep up with the more experimental tendacies of the first side of the album, it was decided that Matt Roberts should sing, something he's never done before. Recording of this song was very brief compared to others, the only major change decided upon was only having the guitar riff in the chorus.

Song Description/Lyrics

The song begins with a violin solo that lasts for around thirty seconds; the sound is slow and remorseful. After it's finished, a muffled drum solo cuts in, almost as though it's being heard through a wall. A driving bass riff begins, and continues through the entire song. The sound is oddly danceable, and it's hard to determine whether the song is sad or happy. Eric Quillington sings in falsetto for the entire song, only singing in his normal chest voice for two lines; I feel like I'm slowly drifting away, and when it's over, I'll have more questions than answers.

Matt Roberts and Greg Oldson sing the chorus (Man dreams of numbers..) in an atmospheric duet. During the chorus, Quillington plays guitar with delay, in a style reminescent of The Edge's way of playing guitar. For the second/final chorus, the violin solo from the beginning can be heard playing in the background. As the song ends, the violin is the last noise to be heard, bringing the song full-circle.

Infinity lies before me like a void
Yet I stare, always asking myself why
I’ll figure it out before it drives me mad

I feel like I’m slowly drifting away

Forever- something so elusive, so pure
Always one way or another
I’ll never figure it out, but that’s never stopping me

Man dreams of numbers, plots and equations
With the endless drawings, he can see the light of god
Man declares war, all to just defend beliefs
With the endless bloodshed, he can see the light of god

Infinity lies before me like a void
And in the end, I don’t care why
I’ll never figure it out, and it’s driving me mad

When it’s over, I’ll have more questions than answers

Man dreams of numbers, plots and equations
With the endless drawings, he can see the light of god
Man declares war, all to just defend beliefs
With the endless bloodshed, he can see the light of god

"I'm always slightly nervous when I make lyrics that are somewhat controversal. I felt the same way on this song that I did when I wrote No Remorse. It was a song about the thoughts of a psychopath, but I knew I couldn't piss anybody off with it. The lyrics in the chorus could upset alot of christians, and I was worried about that. But, I just realized I didn't care, I love the lyrics I wrote for this song. It's very personal, and the line "with the endless bloodshed, he can see the light of god" is probably the best I've ever written."

Daniel: There are many reason why I think you're album might be the best of the year. The lyrics are amazing. Like Stephanie Fierce once said. You can have the most amazing voice, the most unique sound, but if your lyrics are shit. Your music is shit. Anyways, you should be hearing this more often. I least I hope so.

I've been hearing compliments quite a bit, and it's all been amazing! As I've said earlier, I made a conscious effort to improve on the lyrics the second time around, and it's great that they're getting more and more attention. This album so far is achieving everything I hoped it would, and I couldn't be happier.

Lucky
(3:21)

Writing/Recording

The first song on the 'Dream' side of Midnight Skies was the newest and last song Infinite recorded. Keeping in that style, the final song on this side is the oldest from the album. Lucky was written during the recording sessions of Blue Nebula, and as a result is very similar to the tone of that album; menacing and somewhat depressing. In stark contrast to the more positive-sounding songs on Midnight Skies, Lucky is, in Eric Quillington's words, "Disturbing and morbid." The singer didn't even want the song on the album, but was finally convinced otherwise by his bandmates.

(Eric Quillington also didn't want the Infinity Delusion and the later song Strobe on Midnight Skies, but was convinced of their potential by Greg and Matt.)

The earlier, guitar-oriented version of the song (a B-side on the Fusion Paranoia single) was modified and re-arranged in order to fit the tone of their second album. The dominant guitar riff from earlier is completely removed, and instead the song is driven by a powerful bass-riff with notes from the guitar softly heard in the background. This change, plus more, were put in place in order to fit the dream-like tone of the earlier songs on the album.

The lyrics of the song describe the thoughts of a self-aware comatose patient, who uses optimism to the extreme in order to convince himself that it could be worse. In the context with the album's theme, the song details the dream's shift from a peaceful lie to a distrubing nightmare; the only way the narrator would want to wake up.

Song Description/Lyrics

The beginning of this song is a wide variety of noises a hospital; heart-monitors, carts, doctor's whispering to each other, etc. These noises continue throughout the song, and a driving bassline begins to be played, with a guitar occassionally chiming in. The noises in the background oddly act as the rhythm for the song, so there are no drums or percussion. Greg Oldson isn't just left with nothing to do during the song; he sings the one-line chorus in a very soft, almost angelic way. Eric Quillington's vocal delivery for the song begins very deep and mumbled, with the words hard to make out.

Each verse, the song seems to build up in intensity, and Quillington's singing becomes increasingly psychotic. This reaches it's apothesis in the end, with him screaming the line 'wake me up' in a very heartbreaking way. As the song ends, patient's screams can be heard in the background, and the heartmonitors all flatline, ending the first half of the album.

Bones crack, bruises sting, stuck in this misery
Cannot live, cannot sleep
All I see is darkness

(Count the blessings, you're lucky to be alive)

White is black, black is white
Time and space means nothing here
No difference between minutes and hours

(Count the blessings, you're lucky to be alive)

Cannot here, cannot sleep
Cannot live, cannot die
Wake me up, wake me up
(Count the blessings, you're lucky to be alive)
Wake me from this nightmare
(Count the blessings, you're lucky to be alive)

"I was really nervous about releasing this song, because it's completely against what I'm trying to achieve with this album. But, I eventually realized that Midnight Skies would just be so boring if I wasn't willing to bend the rules a little. The first part of this album is so peaceful, almost beautiful in it's own way. I'm ending that with the most disturbing song I've ever written, which isn't what alot of people probably weren't expecting. This album is chaos in literal form. I even scream in Lucky for the first time, which took alot of mentoring from Jason Smith and others. In the end, I think it was worth it."

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."

Writing/Recording

Similarly to 0.9 Pelnav from Blue Nebula, this bass solo was constructed to be a bridge between the two halfs of Midnight Skies. The recording of this song was as simple as the one for Prelude to a Dream, and was also completed in only one take. This song, in the context with the album, represents the narrator waking up from the nightmare into the real-world. Matt Roberts has stated that the main inspiration for this song is Muse's Interlude.

Song Description/Lyrics

A highly distorted, yet very mournful and melancholy, bass-solo can be heard throughout this short 'instrumental'. The only other sound is Eric Quillington's quiet singing, sounding very distant. The singing is comprised of the lyrics from the first half of the album, and serves as closure to that part of the album.

Paranoia resumes, like a supernova in bloom
The universe explodes, and it's no one's fault
Nothing will be lost, but nothing will be gained
With the endless bloodshed, he can see the light of god.
Wake me up, wake me up

OOC: Sorry about the short length of this RP, there's just really nothing else to say about it.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Starting tomorrow, the rest of Midnight Skies will be released. I sincerely apologize for any fans being left waiting for this to happen, but I hope you'll forgive us and still listen to these songs. While the first half of this album was (for obvious reasons) very dream-like and experimental, the second half's lyrics and sound will be more grounded in reality due to the fact that it's about being awake from from a dream. I won't give away too much information about this part (I don't want to spoil any surprises), but the song with my personal favorite title out of any Infinite song is being released tomorrow; How to Disturb and Alienate Others. I'll leave you guys to guess what it'll be about. I hope you'll enjoy these songs as much as we enjoyed making them!

How To Disturb and Alienate Others
(3:46)

Writing/Recording

Eric Quillington wrote this song during a period of depression resulting from his heroin addiction and his view that Matt Roberts and Greg Oldson simply didn't care about his declining health. The song originally had a one-line chorus, "When death approaches, no one will notice," but Quillington cut the line out of the song for two reasons; he felt it was taking the song's bitter meaning too far, and the line would change the song to the point where it wouldn't be able to fit on the album. The song's unconventional three-verse format was also a result of Eric Quillington's increasing desire to experiment with song structures. Quillington was reportedly extremely nervous about even showing this song to the other members, due to it's lyrical themes, but was reportedly discovered when Matt Roberts stole the journal the lyrics were written on.

As stated multiple times already; each song was written to have a meaning as a stand-alone song and as a part of Midnight Skies. By itself, the song describes Quillington's perspective of the band's rise to fame. In the context of the album, it describes the narrator's thoughts as he wakes up.

Song Description/Lyrics

This song is the first song on the 'Reality' half of the album, so the obvious experimental characteristics of the first half are gone. As a result, How to Disturb and Alienate Others is more of a straightforward rock song, and it's sound is very similar the songs on Infinite's debut album. A heavily-distorted guitar riff plays at the beginning, and in between the verses. This riff serves as the 'chorus' of the song. During the verses, a dominant bass riff is heard, and no guitar. Quillington's voice during this song is very low, almost mumbled. His tone of voice is very calm, almost conversational, but there is an obvious hint of anger in his singing.

All of my past is quite a haze
Stuck in my thoughts; it’s just one big maze
The look in your eyes was quite a sight
Staring at the crowd seemed to spark a light
You took a bow, fucked their wives
Everybody was having a good time
You said it was like all your dreams had come true

We took their money, we scammed them all
Something was wrong from the very start
Injecting my veins with beautiful liquid
Friends laughed in my face when I asked for help
You told me to wake up from my dream

Nothing now even seems slightly familiar
Can’t go anywhere without someone chanting my name
Always hounding me, always hunting me
I bitterly asked you why there was nothing left
You simply replied that the dream was dead

"The lyrics are very self-explanitory; I was going through a very rough period during the writing of How to Disturb and Alienate Others. I always liked the lyrics and title of this song, but I never had any intention of showing it to anyone. I had this journal that I'd always write down lyrics and poems in; I was consciously trying to make a better album that Blue Nebula, even within a week after that album was released. I was over-reacting to it's success, so I wanted to make people think it wasn't just a fluke. I'd written about fifty songs out, but this and Lucky are the only songs that ever made it onto this album. Ironically, they're the two songs that I didn't want on this album. Greg ended up stealing this journal, wanting to know what I was writing all the time. He tore out all the songs that he hated, but he loved this one, oddly enough. I beat the living shit out of him for doing that, but I think he did the right thing. It is a good song, I just had to be convinced it deserved to be on Midnight Skies first."

Writing/Recording

This is the only song on the album that was written entirely by Greg Oldson, without the help of Eric Quillington. This song and Ciel (a song about an advertisement that's selling heaven) were written out of his increasing discomfort with the superficialities of fame. These two songs were both considered to be part of Midnight Skies, but Strobe's lyrics about dissatisfaction with the world convinced the band to include this song, instead of Ciel.

For this song, the narrator's attempts to drown his sorrows by visiting a strip club. His motivation behind it is to convince himself that there is good in the world. At the club, everyone's apparent obsession with the dancers and physical beauty makes him feel even worse. Despite the fact that the stripper's silicone-enhanced appearance furthur causes him to lose faith in the living world, the Narrator still comes up with a list of incredibly sarcastic 'rules' to help him fit in with society.

Song Description/Lyrics

The sound of the song is influenced by industrial rock bands, such as Nine Inch Nails. Throughout the song, Greg Oldson sings lead vocals. His voice is extremely low, almost monotone, and is purpously without any display of emotion. A delayed and gated guitar riff serves as the rhythm section, and is made to sound like rave-music played at clubs. Eric Quillington sings the chorus (live, die, serve) in a haunting falsetto; during the chorus, all noises are cut except a slow, mournful sounding organ.

Don’t think about yourself, just pray with the crowd
Stare at the dancers, plastic makes them so proud
Don’t drown yourself in sorrows, just drown yourself in beer
Never look back on the past, the future’s very near
Don’t look at her figure, just stare at her face
All so perfect, everything in it’s right place

Live, die, serve

Don’t talk out of time, all speak as one
Listen to the murmurs and try to have fun
Don’t consider yourself unique, you’re only a fly on a wall
Notice everyone’s intense glares, they’re waiting for you to fall
Don’t write your thoughts down on paper, just keep them all in your head
Nobody knows the difference between blue and red

Live, die, serve
Information overload never felt so good

Don’t take any pictures, just keep the memory in your mind
Stare at the living plastic and pretend that you’re blind
Don’t walk out of the room, just ignore the glares
Here or there, you’re not wanted anywhere
