OOC: While Mind are in the studio, I thought I'd give something different a try for once. Hopefully, it'll be alright. There will be some mentions of the n-word in the lyrics, but don't take it in a racist way.

Straight from the streets of Brooklyn, comes a new rapping sensation. EmCee (real name Amos Barwuah) is attempting to bring back what he calls "the true days of hip-hop". His music has been likened to artists like The Notorious B.I.G and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien.

As he walks into the room, there is a tense sort of atmosphere. He is a large guy, and is smoking in a non-smoking area. "This man is the epitome of evil." I thought to myself. He slumps into his chair with a mumbled "Yo". I nervously introduce myself and he, without saying anything, shakes my hand. "Please to meet you, man." I ease up a little at this. We chat away from a few mnutes, before starting to talk about his music. "Yo, my music's about loads of issues man. Conspiracy theories, government, poverty... loads of shit." This is true. One look at the lyrics for Metropolis, and you know that he isn't happy with the way the world is.

That's one unique twist about EmCee... his rapping has a slightly eerie, dark feel to it. The songs he chooses to sample are testimony to that. For Metropolis, he samples Sang Real by Dredg. "I may be a rapper, but I ain't one-dimensional, dawg. I can rock too."

"Yeah, my main nigga Jason is doing this for me..." he says in a bright tone as Jason Smith comes up. He will be producing his yet untitled debut album. "Jason saw me rappin' while he was in Brooklyn... he liked me and immediately offered his services." Jason Smith is known as an eccentric metal mastermind, but he occassionally goes off on a tangent into other genres of music; for example, this album right here.

EmCee talks about his home in a good way in this interview, but in his lyrics, it can usually be quite negative. "Ya know, Brooklyn is where my heart's at... it may be flawed, but it's cool. I don't think I'd live in the area I am now though... it's too dangerous and shit. No place that I'd wanna bring my kids up. If my album does well, I might move out here in the UK. Metropolis is doing quite well underground, but nothing big yet."

Then, especially for us, he plays that song. It is obvious that this kid's got talent. Only time will tell if he can make it as far as his heroes in this business though.

Metropolis

I’m bringing da heat, while I’m laying da beats,
While back at home, my main niggas dead on da streets,
Pumping out da guns whose flesh I will eat,
Bound to make niggas jump right outta they seats,
Metropolis? I’ve had enough of this,
Little babies cry for momma, who feels worthless,
And back on the land, of Brook-a-Lyn,
Niggas crying out for da main man,

You wanted this, metropolis.
(Illuminati want my mind, soul and ma body!)
You wanted this, metropolis.
(Gun shot is ringing, my main niggas singing.)
You wanted this, metropolis.
(Dystopian miracle, fuck all da cynical.)
You wanted this, metropolis.
(Worthless Nazareth, fight for ya last breath.)

I’m rapping the life, all the trouble and strife,
Making money from the masses that saving ma life,
From Glamazon through Mind, Quillington and Green,
You can fucking guarantee that I wont come clean,
Dystopia, fucking dope of ya,
Look what you’ve made of my story, uh,
Tainted to the bone, pickin’ up the phone,
To kill all our family, you know you can’t guarantee.

Now tell me a story...
Uh.
Tell me a story,
Motherfucker.
Uh, uh.
Illuminati.
Killuminati...
