MISS VANITY LIVE AT THE CHAOS AWARDS
The lights dim as Miss Vanity's name is announced and an introduction video begins to play. Sounds such as heavy breathing, screams, water dripping, mouse squeaks and footsteps are all mashed together and played over the upbeat, moody electronic instrumental of "Kill Me Slowly", the video showing Vanity kneeling in a dark corner, she looks upwards as a door opens and the video fades to white, the video referencing to her real life tragedy of being kidnapped and locked away. The opening beats to the brand new song begins, the lights flash upwards and reveal Vanity standing on a platform high above the stage floor, shouting out the powerful opening lines "Apparently you love me, you kill me slowly / You said you love me so cut right through my heart / If you loved me then you'd watch the damage you've done / You'd sit there silently and watch the blood pour / You know that love is blind and inflicts pain / Now you've put me in the danger zone, so cut off the pain and kill me slowly..." The music pauses as Vanity leaps off of the platform, being caught by a crowd of her dancers, as the music hits again. To the surprise of fans, "Kill Me Slowly" isn't a saddening pop ballad, it's an experimental piece of electronica that starts off as a sort of electro-ballad that builds up into an anthemic, chanty and upbeat chorus that is sure to be a Vanity classic.
"I haven't felt this fucking good in... months... months, I really haven't, this is therapy to me right now" she says, a roar of cheers responding back, "You crazy bitches..." she laughs as the instrumental to "Fresh Meat" begins. "I wore a meat dress into this award ceremony because the paparazzi think celebs are meat basically... we're humans, can you believe that? We're not a piece of meat without any feelings, we should have our own privacy and our own freedom..." she says, leaving no time for cheers as she belts out the first line of the song, beginning a dance routine in the chorus and being chased by her dancers as they drag her around the stage throughout the verses. "FUCKING LEAVE ME ALONE!!" she shouts out mid-way through the song, the crowd scream loudly as the chorus begins right after the outburst, the song ends as a man grabs her and carries her up the stairs on stage.
Another new song begins, "Devil in Disguise", a feisty and loud mid-tempo electro-rock track. Vanity jumps out of the mans arms and tries to escape down the stairs, but the man grabs her by the hair, as she begins singing in pain. She pushes him off of her and corners him near an open pit which is behind them whilst this is all happening, she attempts to push him in as he moves out the way as she nearly falls in, she kneels down as he goes to push her in, but misses. Vanity goes to attack the man but he dodges her attack and sweeps under her arm, grabbing her and throwing her into the pit. "Miss Vanity, you don't fit in with the rest of the world... YOU'RE REJECTED" a loud voice shouts out, repeating the line as the man stands over the pit laughing, fire beginning to come out of the pit, the crowd unknowing of where Vanity is. Screams and shouts from her are heard as the crowd continuously look around the stage to see where she is. Two large doors on the stage floor open as Vanity is seen sitting behind a piano with reaching out arms on the top of it, she begins singing a piano ballad version of hit track "Nightmares" as she's seen covered in ashes from the fire in the pit, her vocals are spot-on throughout the performance, putting all her emotion into the track, never before as she related to the song more.
The crowd scream loudly as she finishes up the song, Vanity wipes away a tear as she adjusts the microphone to go and talk into it. "Tonight is a special night for os many reasons... but one thing I want to bring to attention is the dear loss of my very best friend, Stephanie F. Johnson... or some of you may simply know her best as the one and only, Stephanie Fierce. This song was nominated for an award tonight which is such an honour and I did the song with her... it's something I'll never forget. This is for you, Steph." Vanity begins her second piano ballad and final performance for her set of "Little Miss Controversy" as she gets the crowd to wave their arms in the air throughout the performance as she belts the words out, struggling to sing some parts as she fights back the tears that are desperately trying to find their way out. She ends the song by holding the very last note for a while, putting her all in as she ends, taking a deep breath, stepping out of her piano stool and bowing to the crowd as they cheer, the lights dim and Vanity is lowered under the stage.
