In the midst of all the succesfull female popstars tearing the charts today is a man who could be on the rise, set to release an E.P with such soul, emotion and such great musical artistry, however he’s not likely to stand a chance in this current climate of popstars, he is as far away from this weeks number 1 Michelle Green as humanly possible. Today we’ve sat down for an interview with him for Indie Magazine.

Having heard a brief demo I must say how have you not been doing this for years?
I don’t have a selling point and that’s something I like, it’s not just one thing or another, I don’t think anyone can label me as either a Rockstar, a folk singer, a punk rocker or a popstar. I like to think that I’m a mix of everything, maybe with the exception of pop. I’m all about the writing rather than the image and although that’s fine for the current people in the charts it’s just not me, I don’t have any interest in being a pop puppet like some people and it’s not their fault, their young and being manipulated by people like their agents or their management to make radio-friendly pop songs and I just don’t think I’d stand for that, If I’m gonna have any kind of success I’d want it to be on my own terms, you know.

Any luck in finding a record label?
No, The thing is, I’ve never went and pursued a record deal—ever. It's too funny to even talk about. Once you sign that contract it’ll be like being controlled by the mafia, your career is out of your hands, and I’m sure there’s some record label’s out there who prefer to hear the artists voice rather than their bank managers voice but for me that’s not something I’m particularly interested in, I guess I’m doing things the hard way.

So how would you say you differ from most modern music?
The only angle is the art that you choose, that only you can provide. And to do that, you have to be quiet for a long time and find out what you bring forth. You have to know what's in yourself—all your eccentricities, all your banalities, the full flavour of your woe and your joy. What does it look like? What does it feel like? What makes it different from everybody else's? It's totally subjective. You're just given the task of bringing it up. Once you find your own voice then everything becomes that little bit clearer.

Your influenced by everything it seems?
Well yeah, that’s a given really. You go out into the big wild world and you can feel down and depressed by the sad state of it all and then all it will take is the youthful innocence from the smile of a child who knows no anger in this world. There’s times when this world can get on top of you and crush you but if you can come out of any tough situation with a smile on your face then the promise of a better world is a real possibility … for about 2 hours at least.

So Brandon, what are your main musical influences?
Love, anger, depression, joy and dreams. ...And Zeppelin of course. In all honesty I like my music dark and deep and romantic and sometimes I find a record which is the complete embodiment of what I’m looking for, sometimes it’s harder to find that perfect record but when you it’s like, seeing the world from a different perspective.

And when can we expect to purchase a copy of your E.P?
Soon I guess, it will be pretty limited, it‘s a self-released E.P so we‘ll see what happens I guess. You can only order it from my website and I guess there’ll be like 500 copies maybe.

Brandon: Ummm ... It's not a case of giving up, I just don't yearn for mainstream success that's all, you don't have to have ... number 1 records to be a succesfull musician.
