Parallels is:

Joe Stirling: Vocals
Steve Lewis: Lead Guitar/Vocals
James Burns: Rhythm Guitar
Alex Goodfellow: Bass Guitar'
Nate Suhr: Drums

Bio:

Parallels formed in Colorado Springs, Colorado in the summer of 2010. The band's five members grew up in the same suburban neighborhood, knowing each other for years. Drawing influence from many different genres from 90s pop punk to hardcore to metal, the band recorded several demos and toured extensively throughout the area. After several months of touring, and seemingly no rise in popularity on the local scene, Parallels decided to re-locate to nearby city Denver. The plan proved successful, and the band is currently working on their debut EP, which they plan to release digitally via parallels.com

Label:

Parallels is currently unsigned, but looking for a label. If interested, please contact!

In preparation for their currently untitled EP, Parallels has decided to make the first song available for streaming on their website. The song, entitled encHAnTmEnt, was recorded January 15th at singer Joe Stirling's DIY home studio. Details below.

encHAnTmEnt (5:02)

Song Background/Details:

Picking a song to debut on their brand new website was difficult. But, Joe Stirling and Parallels felt that there couldnt be a more perfect song than encHAnTmEnt. "I think it displays everything we have to offer," says Stirling. "Everything from our melody and song arrangement to our sense of sarcasm, which for all you new listeners out there, comes out a lot."

The song's origins stem from one bassist Alex Goodfellow's relationships gone sour. "I was dating this girl for about 2 years in high school. At first, everything was great. Typical high school sweetheart crap. But as time went on, the puppy love started to fade away and we began to annoy each other. Annoyance turned to dislike, and that turned into hatred. The first two lines of the chorus were actually said between us. It started out as a joke, you know, just teasing her. But as time went on it kinda became true. We hated each other, but we didnt break up!. I see it with so many relationships these days. Those couples that you look at and say 'How are they still together?' This song is for them."

The song begins with a simple rhythmic strumming by guitarist James Burns, overlapped by the song's chorus, which is sung by Stirling in a loud, obnoxious pop punk tone. As the final word of the chorus is sung, the guitarists breaks out into a mellow hardcore power chord, with drummer Nate Suhr matching the slow tempo, which continues for the first two verses. For the third verse, Stirling busts out the heaviest vocals of the song, complimented with a slow, sharp breakdown in the background. For the last verses of the song, Stirling vocals are very sing-songy and sarcastic. Steve Lewis plays a soft, repetitive acoustic piece to match Stirling, while the rest of the band is silent until the final chorus of the song, which is repeated until the song fades out.

Lyrics:

(OOC: Vocal Guide -
Bold: Joe Stirling's heavy vocals
Regular font: Joe Stirling's clean vocals
{Bracketed}: Steve Lewis' harsh/hardcore-esque yells
{{Double Bracketed}}: Sung by both)

You promised that you'd never leave
Yeah I knew I couldnt be that lucky
Such a sad sorry tale you've weaved
But the threads are slowly coming apart

Love at first sight?
This is kill or be killed
I've seen the look in your eye
You see I know you better than most

I can read you like a book, even if I hate what I see
You cant hide your resentment, even when its aimed at me

You hate what you've become
Push the blame on me
{{Dont worry, i'll take it}}

You promised that you'd never leave
Yeah I knew I couldnt be that lucky
Such a sad sorry tale you've weaved
But the threads are slowly coming apart

Endless nights of the same old song and dance
I've grown used to this tired tune
But to be frank i'd like to give some other disco a chance

So Relax, turn down the radio
I know this might sound crazy, so
Sit and listen carefully
The ugly truth will set you free
I'll try to keep this in one verse
The romance was bad, the sex was worse
I'm not surprised we fell apart
You showed disaster from the start
Dont tell me that you didnt know
You wore heels to that punk rock show
You hate my friends, my band, our name
I cant believe you told me bass was lame

You promised that you'd never leave
Yeah I knew I couldnt be that lucky
Such a sad sorry tale you've weaved
But the threads are slowly coming apart
But the threads are slowly coming apart
{{But the threads are slowly coming apart.}}

As everyone else has been saying so far, this is just fucking awesome. Real emotional music, masked behind a layer of sarcasm. I'm loving it so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll be making in the future!

-Eric Quillington

OOC: Welcome to the forums, mate. This is awesome quality for someone who's just started out, so I can tell you quite a bit of potential. :)
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis

(Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk)

Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist
Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo

Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles

(Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.)

Eric Quillington (Deceased) - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano, Primary Lyricist
Matt Roberts - Bass
Greg Oldson - Drums, Backup Vocals, Secondary Lyricist
Amelia Florentine - Keyboards, Piano, Lyricist, Backup Vocals

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."
