Title: “Some Roads Lead To Nowhere”
Release Date: December 22, 2013
Recorded: January – November, 2013, Three Crow Studios, Los Angeles, California
Genres: Alternative Rock, Southern Rock, Celtic Rock, Country, Americana, Folk
Length: 74:12
Label: Ocean Records
Producers: Brandon Caulfield, Sarah Jade Harrison, JR Rhythm

“Some Roads Lead To Nowhere” is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter ‘Brandon Caulfield’, it is the highly anticipated follow-up to his summer 2012 full-length release “Tales From The Heartlands” which became his most commercially successful release in his career to date and also spawned three hit singles in the form of “The Ballad Of A Vagabond (feat. Cristina Lake)”, “My Disenchanted Society” and “Better Days Ahead”. It follows on from the Country and Americana roots that the musician explored with in ‘Tales From The Heartlands’. Like the majority of Caulfield’s music to date, it takes a great deal of influence from a number of iconic musicians that tend to include the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty, all of which are artists that Caulfield has “Obsessed over for years”. The album has received little build up as it has been worked on for almost 12 months, but has seen the release of two number one singles in the form of “Arizona” and “Nightbirds Are Flyin’” already this year, which has seen Caulfield’s status within the industry go from unknown indie songwriter to hugely popular folk troubadour, this status was all but confirmed as he was asked to headline the 2013 No Venues Tour, making it the first time since his brief work as temporary lead singer of The Bards that the musician has been willing to play venues at such a large scale.

Some of the songs from the record actually date back to late 2012, the initial plan was to get the album recorded throughout December to February 2013, but various things have stalled the recording process. The main thing of course, being family life and recent fatherhood and not to mention Caulfield’s reputation as a notorious perfectionist when it comes to his own craft as a musician. There had been rumours earlier in the year that Caulfield could be recording another album with iconic rock band ‘The Bards’, but the rumours died away rather swiftly and Caulfield concentrated on building up a collection of new songs to demo at his recording studio in his hometown of Los Angeles, California and worked on these whenever time would allow, which was proving more difficult as a new father.
The album was recorded between January and November of 2013, at Caulfield’s own studio, ‘Three Crow Studios’ in Los Angeles, California, an isolated custom-built studio just outside of Los Angeles. This record sees a heavier influence on a Country and Americana style that Caulfield introduced on his previous record, ‘Tales From The Heartlands’. It will be produced by Caulfield alongside long-time collaborators ‘Sarah Jade Harrison’ and ‘JR Rhythm’ and the record will also mark the musicians first major release under the ‘Ocean Records’ label. The album will see a worldwide release on Sunday 22, December, 2013.

The Album
Following the unexpected success of his third studio album ‘Tales From The Heartlands’, Brandon Caulfield had almost gone from an unknown folk gem to a hugely popular storyteller. Following in the footsteps of his biggest musical idols, ‘Bruce Springsteen’ and ‘Bob Dylan’ and their own meteoric rise within the music industry. This was done without compromising artistic vision or losing creative control, done at his own pace and with minimal fuss, ‘Heartlands’ was released in the summer of 2012, four singles were released from the record, three of which went to number one which surprised even the most blind-sighted and passionate Caulfield fans. A collaboration with ‘Cristina Lake’ ignited a successful period and the two shared the stage during a performance at an awards ceremony, the momentum was very much with the often quiet and low-key musician and he handled it in trademark fashion, mostly by ignorance. However, he did use this period as an opportunity to help those that needed it.
In late 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast of the U.S and devastated everything in its path, Cities that held personal memories from Caulfield’s youth and early adulthood. He penned a charity single, titled ‘Wild Is The Wind’ and brought his wife ‘Hannah Beth’ into the picture along with ‘Hayden’ and ‘Isabel’, the single was intended to raise some money for those affected by the devastation, little did he expect the song to hit number #1 and raise anywhere near the amounts that it did, the amounts doubled by each person that appeared on the track and he had done his part.

At the beginning of 2013, Caulfield released a single which was the leading single from his upcoming new record that he would be working on, the track was called ‘Arizona’ and again it saw Caulfield placed at the top of the charts. The following months saw a period of quietness from Caulfield, something that fans had become accustomed to. Partly down to his wife giving birth to twins Caleb and Charlotte and partly down to Caulfield’s own traits. Nothing was heard for a short while, he re-emerged to play some shows in May and June where he tested out new material on his audiences, but once again the man disappeared briefly, emerging once more in August with news that he was to headline the No Venues Tour for a couple of months, this combined with the release of his second single from his still unannounced fourth studio album, the single was called ‘Nightbirds Are Flyin’’ and it followed on from previous success, marking four consecutive number #1 singles. Anticipation for his fourth studio album built, fans flocked to see him at the No Venues Tour, a performer that tends to shun such high profile concert venues but he revelled in the limelight, embracing the legions of fans during the tour. What was noticeable was the growing country influence during his performances, his voice appeared to have an added twang to it and sounded a little more weather-worn than before and slide-guitars became a bigger feature, there was also more of a comfort onstage from the musician that struggled so badly from anxiety in the early stages of his career.
It was evident from this run of performances that Caulfield had now truly grown into a fully-fledged musician with the ability and confidence to dictate the energy and passion of any crowd that would be willing to listen.

LYRICS

“I’ll never forgot how our New York looked
I’ll keep in my memories, tales from when we were young
Despite what you were always preaching to me back in those days
I got lost and alone in Manhattan’s winter haze
I just kept telling myself it was all just a phase

The faces we once knew have grown old and grey
Some are still living but the others went away
I see familiar places that remind me of only you
I sometimes wonder if those places remind you of me too
Maybe with a fleeting memory in the pouring rain
Or two lovers holding hands on an empty subway train
Their destination unknown
But their journey is pretty clear
Don’t let love run away
Caused by your childish fear

I listen to the trains echo on the tracks in the far off distance
They thunder through those subway stations
I look out of my window as they pass by and I wonder
I wonder where they’re going
I can’t help but wonder
As they rumble along the track like a rolling thunder
Maybe it’s going somewhere closer to you
But it’s only these thoughts that help me make it through

Make it through the night
As the bed we shared is empty
Make it alright
Because a memory can keep a dream alive
Even a dream that has long gone
A dream that has died

As long as I keep those photographs
As I long as I can still picture your face
As long as I can still feel your spirit
I’ll keep falling far from grace
If I keep your memory close in my heart
I’ll find a way to make it through the darkest part
I’ll find a way through the darkest part someway, somehow
Those memories of you, are coming back to me now
Those memories of you, are all coming back to me now
I’ll find a way through the darkest night, someway, somehow
Because those memories of you, are just all coming back to me now”

LYRICS

“Our good intentions once paved the streets
While most of our adolescence was spent under the sheets
We carved our names in the most symbolic of places
It put a smile on our neighbours faces
But they’d always dismiss it
It’s just childish fun
Now that you’ve gone
I guess that they’ve won

You got a chance to start again
While I’m stuck here just remembering
I see those trees and how our names have faded in time
I still walk by the river that you claimed as both yours and as mine
But you went away from me
Never a one for honesty
You took your love
And my dignity
The day that you walked out on me

Some days are better than others
The ones that seem to pass by without a single trace
But some days just serve one purpose
Just reminding me of your face
All of your beauty but none of your grace
And in these moments
I know that you won’t ever be there
And I’m just filled with a longing and despair
I fall to the floor of this cold and lonely chamber that surrounds me
Just fading for hours and days with no one to find me
Because you were the only tie that could bind me

So as I gaze out of my window and across this whole city
Everything that I see just serves to remind me
That you’re not here anymore
To pick me up as I fall to the floor
To give me strength when it seems like it’s all gone
To give me a reason to carry on
As I gaze out of my window time and time again
I always see your reflection in the sweet Louisiana rain
It’s just another reminder of the thing that I no longer possess
Well my heart is fragile and my mind is a mess

I can only keep living through this pain
If I can keep believing that I’ll be with you again
But until then I’ll just sit and wait
Because I still believe in destiny and fate
I need the belief that I’ll see you again
Because you’re elemental to me
Just like the sweet Louisiana rain”

LYRICS

“My body bears the scars
Of a youth littered with torture and pain
And although I have grown older over these years
Those scars still remain
I can’t run away from the darkness no more
It’s bellowing after me like never before
Fury rising up
Fear is coming down
The darkness is overcast
Over this familiar town

Darlin’ if you look at me
And see his face staring back through me
Promise that you’ll leave
Just run away and don’t look back
I can’t have you under attack
Who I’ve become is so much more
But I can’t promise that his image won’t show

We’re both capable of pain
We take the beatings of a life less lived
But I know that we can be the great pretenders
But we only take and we don’t give

I can hurt you
But you can hurt me too
I’ve caused you a whole world of pain
Just believe me when I say I will do it again
But when all that surrounds us has gone
And neither of us has won
Just remember that I’m a runner and my father’s son

We use our words of venom
Just like ammunition
We sit alone in the darkness at night
As if our company is an imposition
It’s clear that you don’t love me and yet you stay
But I don’t love you either
I just can’t run away
Something keeps pulling me back
Perhaps it’s the thought of the things that I lack
Or maybe we both don’t like pain
If that’s the case
Then we’ll do this all again

I can hurt you
But you can hurt me too
I’ve caused you a whole world of pain
Just believe me when I say I will do it again
But when all that surrounds us has gone
And there’s neither of us has won
Just remember that I’m a runner and I’m my father’s son

But only one of us will be left standing
Bathed beneath that familiar sun
Only one of us will remain
The question is
Which one has won
Because I’m just a runner and my father’s son”

Composer: Brandon Caulfield, Ellie-Grace Summers

“Poor lonely soul sat in the numbness of a subway hall
Nothing around but the cold, damp chill in the winter air
I wonder if she’ll ever find her way in this world
Just drawing circles on the untouched skin of her knees
Wrapping her hair around her finger until it starts to turn numb
Jabbing a pen in her hand until the small holes start to bleed
Forever waiting for a train that won’t ever come
In the midst of a hunger that she just can’t feed

Once upon a time I had something to say
But most of the time nobody listened anyway
And those things that I once knew have slowly faded away
I know that I’m now starting to grow stronger than before
But I’m still hiding myself away so that no one will ever know
The person that’s inside of this skin and bones that you see
Forever hidden away like a whispered tragedy

Life can be hard for someone so young
Being forced to grow old before your life has begun
Time can be quite cruel and take things from you that you aren’t ready to let go
But it’s a part of life that we all know
We just try to hold on to a hope that has gone
But we all have to say goodbye to a life we once knew
Sometimes growing old is all that you can do

People used to tell me, you’ve got some growin’ up to do
They’d say enjoy it while it lasts because old age will someday come to you
But that time seems to have arrived here quicker than I thought
Quicker than all of the songs and words that I wrote
They said old age will someday come to you
But I’ve learnt that I’m growing old at just twenty-two

I know you probably think you’re much better off this way
But we all get a little more lonesome each day
I too used to think that I was better off alone this way
I’d hear voices in the silence till my eyes close then fade away
But nothing can stop you from walking down this lonely path
Not even the vague memories of a familiar face on an old photograph

But I learnt the fine art of growing old
You’ve gotta let go of those childish dreams someday
So why not let go of them today
I learnt the fine art of growing old
You gotta learn quickly when you’re poor
How to find shelter from the cold
See I learnt the fine art of growing old
When you have no place that you can call your own
You learn that your home is just your own skin and bone
I learnt the fine art of growing old”

LYRICS

“I’m heading through Phoenix with the sun beating down
The sun’s beating down
All the familiar places that I used to know
Those places that I used to know
But I see that I ain’t quite the same
No, I ain’t quite the same
Only my name
It’s the only thing that remains
Only thing that remains

The rivers draw me in to the beauty of the sea
To the beauty of the sea
The mountain peak above is calling out to me
It’s calling out to me
It’s sayin’ what have you become
Yeah, what have you become
Don’t turn back and run
Oh, don’t turn back and run

It’s been a long time away from here
I’ve changed a lot along the way
I’ve got a job and a family in New York City
The simple life is safe and pretty
But back in Arizona
I used to be
Somebody
Back in Arizona
I used to be
Somebody

I head into a forest and carve my name into a tree
I carve my name into a tree
It’s the only way anybody’s gonna remember me
Nobody’s gonna remember me
I threw it all away, everything I had
Everything I had
For a life of simple pleasures, but I ain’t ever felt so sad
I ain’t ever felt so sad
Because my memories, they come back
When I step into this city that used to be familiar to me
I look down into the canyon and it’s tempting me
Yeah, it’s tempting me
I could end it all
It only takes the slightest push
To make a grown man fall

It’s been a long time away from here
I’ve changed a lot along the way
I’ve got a job and a family in New York City
But the simple life is too safe and pretty
But back in Arizona
Memories rush back to me
Back in Arizona
I used to be
Somebody
Back in Arizona
I used to be
Somebody”

LYRICS

“I’ve been running all through my life
Away from responsibility
I’ve been travelin’ far from home
Away from our young family
I always knew that it was wrong
But I kept telling myself it was all alright
But now it’s pretty clear to me
It’s time for me to make things right

It seemed like living
But it feels like dying
Without you near me
It seemed like living
But it feels like dying
It’s pretty to clear to me
It seemed like living
But it feels like dying
I think it’s time for me to be
It seemed like living
But it feels like dying
I’ll be the man that I should be

Travelin’ on the road
With no place to call my home
Just knowing that you aren’t here
You’re just sat with our kids at home
It’s where I want to be
But I’ve made my choices now
If I could change my ways
Darlin’ I’d show you how

Because it seemed like living
But it just feels like dying
Without you near me
Yeah, It seemed like living
But it feels like dying
It’s pretty clear to me
Although it seemed like living
It just feels like I’m dying
I think now’s the time for me
To be the man I should be

I’ll just put my past behind me, it’s all dead and gone
I just wanna find a new place for us
Somewhere we can all belong
I’ll put my past behind me, it’s all dead and gone
Find us someplace new
Somewhere we can belong
I can’t keep heading down this lonely road
That I’ve always been travelin’ on
I’m gonna say farewell
So long
Because I’m no longer
Travelin’ on”

LYRICS

“There’s a wind blowin’ along the distant highway side
It branches out across the entire state tonight
There’s a family, cold and homeless
And a father that has lost all of his pride
But it’s his only duty to keep them all alive tonight
Although it’s tough, he’ll continue fighting the good fight
~
The storm passed through here almost one year ago
And it took from this young family
It took everything they had come to know
Friends and loved ones
Photographs and memories
Plans and dreams
Just blown apart at the seams
~
But they all travel endlessly with each other
They stand together hand in hand
Hoping that they’ll find their way back home
Sleeping under palm trees
But never alone
All caused by a cold wind that has blown
~
Roll on, roll on, roll on
Nightbirds are flyin’
Hold on, do they belong where hope is slowly dyin’
Come on, come on, come on
Nightbirds are flyin’
Nobody wants to hear the sound of children cryin’
~
The father spends all of his days hunting
Hunting for something for his children to feast upon
It gets harder and harder as almost all of the wildlife has gone
But he manages to feed his family
And although he’s just as hungry he takes none
~
The storm passed through
It ripped apart everything they’d ever knew
Former friends now laid to the ground
He said ‘forgive me father, how I must have sinned’
As he saw the bodies thrown to the wind
He couldn’t fight back the tears
But he tried to hide his fears
As his children grasped onto his fragile hand
In those moments he vowed to stand
~
Roll on, roll on, roll on
Nightbirds are flyin’
Hold on, do they belong where hope is slowly dyin’
Come on, come on, come on
Nightbirds are flyin’
Nobody wants to hear the sound of children cryin’
~
Roll on, roll on, roll on
Nightbirds are flyin’
Hold on, do they belong where hope is slowly dyin’
Come on, come on, come on
Nightbirds are flyin’
Nobody wants to hear the sound of children cryin’”

LYRICS

“Way back when
Before a tide swept the shore
And washed everything away from you
Everything that you used to know
It served only one purpose
To show you all of the pain in the world
And I guess that it changed you along the way
Because you’ve grown old
You’ve become dark
And you’ve become cold

Once upon a time
You thought everything was on your side
You could do what you want
And everything would turn out fine
But some said you were naïve
To always believe
That you could stem the tide
And make everything
Turn out alright

You’ve grown old
You’ve become dark
And you’ve become cold
But I still hold a place for you
I’ll fight and defend
That much is true

The pretty little curls
And the black painted nails
Don’t get you very far in life my dear
And someday you’ll realize that it’s wrong to hide in fear
So wrap your bandana across your forehead
Put on your war paint
Don’t go to bed
We’ve got a war to win
So just hold your weapons tall and proud
Take a step back
And scream out loud

We are the hopeless pretenders
The flame that grew from the smallest of embers
We’ll stand strongest and we’ll fight until this battle is won
Don’t back down now
Because this has only begun

One day you’ll learn
All of the ways of the world
Because you just can’t always run
When there’s a fight to be won
Don’t push me away
Don’t look for a new place to hide
Because darlin’, you’re gonna need somebody on your side”

LYRICS

“The travelers and rambling men all walk these streets
With the cobbles and the stones all resting painfully under feet
This is where it all started, this is where it all begun
Across the Irish sea is where the very first song was song
And still wherever you look
On every corner and by every door
You hear the music that you’ve all heard before

As the boat pulls into the harbor
The people start to gather around nearby
Father’s, mother’s, sons and daughters
Will begin their journey across these familiar waters
They'll wave goodbye to their loved ones
Only ever remembering them in the words of their songs
Mother’s look on as their sons travel away
Never to see him again someday

Musicians and gypsy’s gathered around
To hear the beauty of the most familiar sound
As the harmonica screeches with that trademark wail
And the guitar’s twang as the boat sets sail
It makes its way across the Atlantic sea
They’ll all make their home in the land of the free

The boat pulls into the New York harbor
The statue of liberty a glimmering sight to take in
It’s a whole new world full of possibilities and much hope
All the way from the streets of Dublin
One by one they make their way
Through the New York streets looking for a place to stay
Until they can get things together
And things will start to become planned
They’ll settle here
In the promised land

They’ll build the structures
They’ll teach our youth
They’ll find shelter
And won’t hide from the truth
It takes hard work and dedication
But they’ll take it on
To settle in our nation

From the streets of Dublin
To the New York shore
These hard working ramblers
Couldn’t ask for anything more
Than the possibility
That our nation can bring
The dreams and hopes
That the freedom bells will ring

My Celtic brethren, come take my hand
We’ll find a home for you in the promised land
A place for the hard workers that will labor until the job is done
This land is for you and me
Just like Woody sung
So my Celtic brethren, come take my hand
We’ll find a good place for you in this promised land
I know that you couldn’t ask for more
From the streets of Dublin
To the New York shore”

LYRICS

“The scars from a lifetime of hurt are plain for all to see
A black sky is rising high above me
It casts a lonely shadow over this decrepit home
And slowly closes in on everything that I’ve ever truly known
The buildings are crumbling down
The once beautiful green trees are falling to the ground
And it appears to be creating a ripple effect
Caused by my own neglect

I’m selfish and heartless
I know these things to be true
I was the one who created the wreckage that surrounds me
But I didn’t really care that it also affected you
The sky was falling all around
It buried you right into the ground
But I never gave you a second’s thought
It’s a history that can’t be rewrote

Here we are, we’re at the edge of darkness
Don’t pretend because a smile can’t hide a world of sadness
Just surround your innocent heart with a coat of armor
That way it will be easier to hide
Promise that you won’t let me inside

We’re at the edge of darkness
When all hope has gone
We can’t see over the hills or mountains
To a place where we could belong
We’re at the edge of darkness
Teetering on the precipice
At the edge of darkness
Just staring into the infinite abyss

My life has lost its meaning
When there’s nobody there to share
There’s an emptiness deep within my unloving soul
And I’m stood alone at the edge of darkness
Out in the middle of nowhere

I’m at the edge of darkness
I can now only learn how to fake a smile
I can’t see myself feeling okay
If I do, I know it’ll take a pretty long while
But I’ll keep hidin’ away
It’s the one thing that I do best
I’ll learn to hide behind my coat of armor
Until the day that they lay me to rest

We’re at the edge of darkness
When all hope has gone
We can’t see over the hills or mountains
To a place where we could belong
We’re at the edge of darkness
Teetering on the precipice
At the edge of darkness
Just staring into the infinite abyss”

LYRICS

“Four years on the stage
Playing our music to the crowds
The evening’s filled with drinks
While the young girls are screaming oh so loud
Backstage is filled with powder and the stench of smoke in the air
The young girls look around the room
Just to find that I ain’t there

I wandered down to the beach
Set my body underneath the boardwalk in the sand
Wondered what I’m doing
This life ain’t worked out how I had planned
The tide came rushing in, making my feet all cold and wet
I can’t help thinking about her and the memory of when our eyes first met

My friends are all backstage
Drinking with the groupies all through the night
I’m here alone, calling my girl to make sure that she’s alright
Another night that has passed me by
It’s harder to enjoy it, the more that I try
The truth I’ve known has become ever so clearer to me
That I’d rather be at home
With my family

It’s a lot to give up at twenty-one
People only settle when all hope has gone
But my mind is made up and my thoughts are pretty clear
I can leave this all behind
With no regret
No doubts
No fear

At twenty-one
It’s time to move on
There’s no more late night drinking alone
I called my girl up on the phone
I said that I miss her
Darlin’ I’m coming home”

LYRICS

“You tip-toe inside at two am
You’ve spent the night with him again
You just seem to think that I’m too blind to see
That you’ve been spending all of these evenings away from me
With someone else instead
Spending all of your time in another man’s bed
Well I’m not so naïve, I’ve learnt to read the warning sign
I’m made my decision and I’ve drawn the line
It’s all over for us
This time

I confront you in the hallway
I ask for his name
You won’t give it to me
You just say that you’re the only one to blame
But deep down in my heart I know that it always takes two
You just keep asking me what I’m gonna do
You beg and scream talkin’ about how much I need you
But this is the last time you’ll see my face
I’m taking our kids and we’re leaving this place

Maybe I’m gonna break your cheatin’ heart
It’s all your fault for tearing’ us apart
It’s something that I should have done, right from the start
Maybe I’m gonna break your cheatin’ heart
Your dirty lies and my compromise
Has been tearing us apart

I’ve packed up the truck and I’ve called the kids
Because there’s just no use for us to try
I’ll give them a moment to understand
I’ll give them a moment just to say goodbye
Take one final look at their faces
Their innocence and child-like graces
Because it’s the last time you’ll get this chance

Maybe I’m gotta break your cheatin’ heart
I should have done it from the start
I was stupid enough to think that I could trust you
But now that you’ve torn this family in two
I’ve got to break your cheatin’ heart
For turning my blood to stone
You’ll always regret your selfish choices
And forever live your life alone”

LYRICS

“How come you still keep me around here
Are you afraid that I may disappear
Surely I’m not the best that you could ask for
I would think that I’d be the worst
Because I just keep you from dreamin’
Always stuck here in reverse

In the midst of the smokey night
It’s sometimes hard to tell which way is right
And I know I hold you back
I’m aware of what I lack
And somewhere down this beaten track
I know someday I’ll find my own way back

But as the drinks go by
I feel like there’s no tomorrow
And in these nights you cry
I bring you such sorrow
I know that I could try
Instead I beg, steal and borrow
And you still stick around
Always believing in the best of me
I wish I could give you the rest of me
And be the man that I thought I’d be

I wouldn’t blame you if you left here tonight
It’s easier to walk away than face another endless fight
I’m well aware that I should give you much more
There should be affection that I just don’t show
So if it’s hurting you then just let me go
Because darlin’
You deserve so much more

And as the drinks go by
I feel like there’s no tomorrow
And in these nights you cry
I bring you such sorrow
I know that I really should try
Instead I just beg, steal and borrow
And you still stick around
Always believing that there’s something more to be found
But when you do find my soul
Just burn it to the ground

I don’t wanna stay like this for the rest of my life
I hope that the beating of my heart stops with the thrust of a knife
There’s things that just need to be cut loose
And my dreams will hang with me
From this noose”

LYRICS

“A cold wind blows in the autumn skies
A kiss on the cheek as you open your tired eyes
And the coldness outside fades and parts
As you’re littered with a warmness deep inside of your heart
Your head on the pillow is resting perfectly still
Watching you from afar as I’m perched on my windowsill
Across the city two lovers holding hands
Making a life filled with hopes and plans
And slowly I turn to see that you’re waking
But deep in my heart I can feel that it’s breaking

You’re body it aches I can tell by your face
And our great memories have flown away from this place
Instead these days you need all the help you can get
And if I leave now I’ll be filled with regret
But there’s no sign of hope
Or even faith in the air
Darlin’ I’d be lying if I said I don’t care
But I’d let go if I couldn’t hold on
But I know that come tomorrow you could be gone

Here I am when you look over at me
I’m sat there waiting, it’s all that you can see
You step out of bed and I can hear you groaning
It’s another awakening on a rainy Wednesday morning
But as the months go by just as quickly as the day
You know that I won’t leave your side
Forever I will stay

It can be rough in the darkest depths of despair
We know that you don’t have long
And someday soon you won’t be there
But I’ll be forever by your side until that day is to come
I will care for you
I promise I won’t run

It breaks my heart to see you dying day by day
My only wish is that you could stay
Because when we made our vows it was until we would part
But you’re growin’ weaker and weaker
It’s forever breaking my heart
My only one
The woman I need
Soon you’ll be gone
Unable to grow strong
But I’ll stand by your side
I’ll always remember you with a heart full of pride

My darlin’, my sweet
I know that someday we will meet
And we’ll continue this love
In the heavens above

So may god give me strength
And I’ll stay by your side
Until the day that you don’t open your eyes
I’ll follow you
In this life and the next
Darlin’ I need you
Why must this be so complex?

Here I am when you look over at me
I’m sat there waiting, it’s all that you can see
You step out of bed and I can hear you groaning
It’s another awakening on a rainy Wednesday morning
But as the months go by just as quickly as the day
You know that I won’t leave your side
Forever I will stay”

LYRICS

“I walk along the river that we both used to go
Your reflection glimmers back at me as I skip some stones
And soon the clouds will be parting
The sun will turn to rain
But every drop that falls upon me
Won’t ever feel the same

It looks like heaven has another angel now
Taken from one world too soon
But you’ll find your place up in the clouds
Well it looks like heaven has another angel now
You’ve been taken
And this world won’t ever be the same
Although your no longer here
We’ll always remember your name

The nights they get sorta lonely
I’ll admit that I miss you so
But that’s the way the world works sometimes
I guess it was your time to go
Maybe things will get better and I’ll find my smile again
When the clouds are parted
I’ll feel you in the rain

It looks like heaven
Has another angel now
From one world to another
I know that I’ll never understand how
But it’s one of life’s unanswerable questions
Just another mystery
They could have taken anybody
But they chose to take you away from me

There’s a space beside me
Where you used to lay
There’s a running commentary
Of the things that you’d always say
But I know I’ll never get to hear your voice
It’s tearing me apart inside
But I guess it’s better that I got to know you
Thanks for taking me along for the ride

It looks like heaven
Has another angel now
From one world to another
I know that I’ll never understand how
But it’s one of life’s unanswerable questions
Just another mystery
They could have taken anybody
But they chose to take you away from me

It looks like heaven
Has another angel now
Keep on flying
I know I’ll meet you again
Somehow”

LYRICS

“She sits out on the front porch
Just rockin’ back and forth
With jeans all ripped and that far distant stare
Her eyes glazed over like there’s nobody even there
It’s hard to believe that she’s only seventeen
When she’s blowing those smoke rings
And her breath smells of caffeine

With her education gone
Her baby’s crying in the back room
She just holds her child close to her chest
Starts singing an old tune
But the baby is still crying, the soothing isn’t working
Although she’s fighting back the tears
Her teenage heart is breaking

She tries her best to keep things together
But she knows it’s just her and her baby alone forever
So she protects the child with all of her heart
And puts on a brave face when her world has been falling apart
The father ran away without a trace
But she holds it together
The child is her one saving grace

So when the baby is sleeping
She stares off alone into the night
The tears roll down her face that she can no longer hide
Her sorrow is clear for all to see
She’s living in pain and misery
And all that she has to soften her regrets
Are those whiskey shots and cheap cigarette’s

This is the road that leads us nowhere
Smoking and boozing in a life that we can’t bare
She takes good care of her baby in her house all alone
But there’s a sadness that the child won’t ever have known
The child is her only saving grace
She puts a smile on her mother’s face
When her world is falling apart at the seams
She holds things together for her baby’s dreams

This is the road that leads us nowhere
It’s a tough life that can be cruel and unfair
This is the road that leads us nowhere
It’s a life that we can’t bare”
