Artist: Kara Romero
Title: “Do I Have Your Attention Now?”
Genre(s): Rap, Hip-Hop, Pop, RnB, Alternative Rock
Label: Just Record
Length: 42:33
Release Date: May, 2016
Recorded: November 2015 – April 2016 – Basement Studios, Brooklyn, New York
Production: Kara Romero, TJ Cousins

“Do I Have Your Attention Now?” is the debut album from American Alternative-Rap singer-songwriter ‘Kara Romero’. She initially debuted back in 2012 with her first single “My Poison Ivy Lips”, the song was an unexpected success as it peaked in the fourth position of the singles chart at that time. However Romero failed to follow up on the success of that single and following a couple of slots as a supporting act on some tours of stars such as Alicia Lena, she found herself moved back into the shadows and her music career was effectively over before it had truly began.
It wasn’t until June 2015 when we heard from the one-hit wonder once again when she debuted a track called “Down” and announced her signing to record label “Just Record”. She stated that she saw this as her true debut and that essentially her music career was re-launched at the new label. However, that comeback song failed to break the top 15 of the airplay charts and questions were raised whether we were going to see her fade away into obscurity again, and that appeared to be the case as the musician went away for a while again. From June 2015 to January 2016, Kara spent the majority of that time working on her music, improving her songwriting and figuring out who she was as a musician and what she wanted to say with her work, she was back and forth between the recording studio and her home in Brooklyn and as January arrived, so too did Kara Romero. This time it felt different.

She returned with a bang, released “Same Old Tears” an extremely raw and honest rap song that saw Kara open up about the death of her mother and the personal demons that this caused for her in later life. It was the brutally honest and heartfelt lyrics that the artist penned that was praised upon it’s released and the track peaked at number two. Marking the change for Kara to truly grab her opportunity for the first time in her career. She followed up a month later with “Perish” again following a similar formula of self-analysis and brutal honesty but this time with more aggression and fight, the track highlighting the challenges she faced in the industry and how she struggled to get to this position, once more the song peaked at number two and she was well on her way.
Again she returned a month later with the next single, “Where the Real Things Are”, a song about the industry and the fakery that she felt surrounded it. Through the song she talks about her first experience of an awards show and how some people do certain things in order to gain more attention from it. This song was perhaps her most universally praised track and peaked at number three.
Finally in April she released the emotionally charged “We Are One”, a song that sung about the devastation and brutality going on in the world at the moment, the track was heartfelt and meaningful, continuing a path that seems to be working for Kara, following delays, it peaked at number eleven and was confirmed as the final single before the release of her debut album.

The album was recorded between November 2015 and April 2016 at Basement Studios in Brooklyn, New York and was produced by Kara Romero alongside TJ Cousins. The album will be released on May 12, 2016 worldwide through “Just Record”.

Track 01 - “Amelie”

“She got the ruby red lips and the long black hair
Tattoos of her victims written without a single fucking care
She’s draped in leather with black polish on her nails
When she’s out searchin’ for a brand new victim, her look never ever fails
One shot, two shot, keep drinking till the music stops
She’ll grab your hand and take you home
A night of pleasure over a night alone
It’s all she’s ever known

Always in the sleazy clubs with alcohol in her hand
Searchin’ for a fresh new victim, for another one night stand
The guys they gather all around her like a moth to a flame
It’s clear which one will leave in the morning, feeling full of shame
And we all know who’s to blame
Yeah we fucking know, who’s to blame

Amelie was a rebel always leading the boys astray
Amelie was the devil, at least that’s what they all seem to say
Amelie was a troublemaker that no one could resist
Amelie was able to hypnotize them all, with just a kiss

Amelie was a rebel always leading the boys astray
Amelie was the devil, at least that’s what they all seem to say
Amelie was a troublemaker that no one could resist
Amelie was able to hypnotize them all, with just a kiss

Amelie was the only girl that had that certain spark
She’d spend the day with last night’s guy and find a new one after dark
Amelie knew how to use her beauty, to get exactly what she needs
And when the next nameless guy leaves in the morning
She notices that her heart never bleeds
I guess you can call her empty or soulless
But something must have made her this way
Don’t judge her by her mistakes
We all sometimes need help getting through the day

Amelie was able to hypnotize them all, with just a kiss”

Track 02 – “Same Old Tears”

Title: “Same Old Tears”
Artist: Kara Romero
From: TBA (2016)
Release Date: January 23, 2016
Length: 4:52
Format: CD Single, Digital Download, Weekly Airplay
Recorded: December 2015 – Basement Studios, Brooklyn, New York, US
Genre: Rap, Alternative Hip-Hop, Pop, Adult Contemporary
Label: Just Record
Written: November/December 2015
Writer(s): Kara Romero
Producer(s): TJ Cousins, Kara Romero

“Same Old Tears” is the third official single from the adult contemporary musician ‘Kara Romero’, It’s set to be taken from her 2016 currently untitled debut album. Despite debuting back in 2012, it’s been a slow process for Kara who began her career with considerable hype after the release of her debut single “My Poison Ivy Lips”, that track surprised many and peaked in the top of five of the singles chart back in 2012 and gained praise from a number of high profile musicians in the industry at the time. However, Kara struggle to continue from that single which was released independently and she failed to get a record deal following the release of the track, therefore putting road blocks in her way as she hoped to make a real go of her music career back then. She states that she spoke to a few record labels during the previous three years but nothing ever seemed to work out and the potential that she showed on her debut single appeared to be worth nothing as time progressed.
However, back in early 2015 she was contacted by TJ Cousins a.k.a Kidd Amaze about possibly signing a recording contract with his label ‘Just Record’, the pair reportedly met up in Kara’s hometown of Brooklyn where they talked music and careers and ultimately what Kara wanted to achieve. She also reportedly showed Cousins lyrics that she had written over the years and the pair came to an agreement, which then led to Kara heading into a recording studio in May 2015, this led to Kara releasing her second single “Down”, the track failed to chart and again appeared to stop Kara in her tracks briefly. Not much was heard of her throughout the rest of 2015 but rumours surfaced that the young musician was working on her debut album for the majority of the time she was seen to be away.

“Same Old Tears” was written by Kara Romero in Brooklyn, New York and recorded at Basement Studios within two minutes of Kara’s home. The track was recorded in December and produced by both Kara and TJ Cousins and is hoped that it can be the catalyst for Kara finally finding her place in the music industry after all these years. The track is set to be released on January 23, 2016 as a CD Single, Digital Download and Weekly Airplay.

Lyrics;

“Drink until I pass out, whiskey straight from the bottle
I got so much shit to forget about, sometimes it feels like the only real option
But I know that this ain’t good, it’s kinda fucking up my entire life
But I grew up in the hood, where they taught me that drink is the only thing to make me feel alright
And it helps in those dark times, to take away the heartache and pain
But they say you can’t run from your demons
Well those fuckers are always there in the morning all over again
And I’m just constantly searchin’
For some cheap thrill to take this all away
And I’m still fucking achin’
From the pain in my heart when my mom went away
And it broke our entire family
Grew up in a strict Christian household
But our faith disappeared
When my mom was taken when I was just four years old
And I still look to the heavens in the dark times
Hoping that the clouds will send a signal to let me know things will be alright
But I’m still crying, lying like a child on the bedroom floor
And inside I’m dying
God, what did you take her away from me for?

I still cry those same old tears
Even after all these years
Wondering where my life would be
If mom was around long enough to guide me
And I went off the rails and broke down
I’m just trying to fix all these years of hurt and pain
But I’ve tried my best to hold out
When inside I wish they’d have just taken me

Maybe you judge my actions from the outside looking in
But that’s okay, because I do too
And I know I’ve fucked up my life and I only have myself to blame
But the truth is that I still place the blame on you
And I smoke too much and I drink too much
And I spend most of my nights getting way too fucked up
And I’m weak, yeah I know it
All this pain I try to hide, well I still show it
And all these little vices, help me keep living for another day
Because it’s the silence in the dead of night
That makes me want to throw it all away

I still cry those same old tears
Even after all these years
Wondering where my life would be
If mom was around long enough to guide me
And I went off the rails and broke down
I’m just trying to fix all these years of hurt and pain
But I’ve tried my best to hold out
When inside I wish they’d have just taken me

Yeah, I guess I’m consistent
A bottle in my hand and I’m just so insistent
Take my hand and follow me home and maybe for a while I won’t feel so alone
Believe me, I feel the shame, when I’m screaming out a strangers name
So maybe a few hours of pleasure won’t take away my pain
But it means that I can start over again
I’m a fucked up kid, I know I am
I know that’s what this is
But I’m trying my best, to find a brighter place
I’m getting there, just give me grace

I still cry those same old tears
Even after all these years
Wondering where my life would be
If mom was around long enough to guide me
And I went off the rails and broke down
I’m just trying to fix all these years of hurt and pain
But I’ve tried my best to hold out
When inside I wish they’d have just taken me”

Track 03 - “Cold-Hearted Lovers” (feat. Jay-C)

“Fuck this, here’s my side of the story
I met him when he was nothin’, but thought that kid was fine
I was nothin’ too, I wasn’t worth shit at that time
But suddenly the work started comin’ in and he didn’t like that one little bit
I was workin’ my ass off in the studio
While he was in our bed screwing some chick
I’d return at night to an empty home
While he’s out on the streets with his crew and I’m in bed alone
Angry and pissed at the things that he’d do
But he’d come home and we’d patch things up
Cause deep inside, I was in love
Yeah, I was in love

Yo...
Baby girl you know I wished to spend my life wit chu,
Hustled through the night and day just spend the night with you,
We had a agreement that we would be fuck buddies,
But don't you see how thats really fucking funny?
The agreement was we would talk to nobody but us,
Girl I had you quaking and shivering with so much lust,
Honestly though you are way to beautiful to be with a guy like me,
I'm just a gangsta and you skinny, beautiful and petite,
I was blinded by love now that shit I can see,
So I guess thats how we gonna let it be?

Now we just lay down and turn out the light
No more feelings left inside and we’d rather fuck than fight
We’d rather close our eyes and look away from each other
It's the way it is now that we’re cold-hearted lovers
We’re cold-hearted lovers

Until the day I caught you fuckin’ around, the day that our love found it’s endin’
Thought what you said was real to me, but you were just pretendin’
And it hurt so bad, it hurt like hell
I was yours for the takin’, how the fuck couldn’t you tell
But I suppose I went a little crazy, nobody told you, I was a psycho, baby
It looks like the tables have turned
I’m wondering if you’ve learned
So you confessed and I took you back
Made sure you never went after another bitch like that
I fucked you up and I broke you down
And now I’m the one that’s fucking around

Now we just lay down and turn out the light
No more feelings left inside and we’d rather fuck than fight
We’d rather close our eyes and look away from each other
It's the way it is now that we’re cold-hearted lovers
We’re cold-hearted lovers

I was lucky to have you in my life, but we was dishonest
And that shits like getting ya neck split, I'm just being honest
You know I gotta big heart, and I might've fucked around
I forgave you for what you did, but you never let that out!
Few mistakes later and ya fucking threw it away,
But you was right and I was wrong it's always the same game
Guess thats why I'm siting here, yeah you made a thug cry
But I'm not gonna hold a grudge I'm gonna keep my hustle and grind
I guess it all comes down to you breaking my heart....
Fuck it yall I guess I'm just gonna pause the game and hit restart.

Now we just lay down and turn out the light
No more feelings left inside and we’d rather fuck than fight
We’d rather close our eyes and look away from each other
It's the way it is now that we’re cold-hearted lovers
We’re cold-hearted lovers"

Track 04 – “My Poison Ivy Lips”

"People look at me like I’m the enemy
They see the short skirts and cherry red lips
Thinking they’ve got me figured out
Because of the way I shake my hips
But they don’t know the real me
It’s something they’d be afraid to see

There’s danger in my eyes
And it won’t come as a surprise
The boys they try to run
I’ll take them like a loaded gun
It’s like poison ivy in my skin
Touch me once and I’ll draw you in
You’ve got the taste and you can’t resist
The lethal dose of my poisoned lips

They glimmer in the dark
Draw you in like a killer spark
They take no prisoners
Don’t you see
The pain I’ll cause
When you kiss me

I’m an assassin in the night
Looking for someone new to bite
I’ll find a victim to put through hell
They’ll just be another story for me to tell

There’s danger in my eyes
And it won’t come as a surprise
The boys they try to run
I’ll take them like a loaded gun
It’s like poison ivy in my skin
Touch me once and I’ll draw you in
You’ve got the taste and you can’t resist
The lethal dose of my poison lips

It’s like poison ivy in my skin
Touch me once and I’ll draw you in
You’ve got the taste and you can’t resist
The lethal dose of my poisoned lips"

Track 05 – “Down”

“I don’t think I’ve ever felt like this
Feels like I’m clutching at straws and your necklace
F*ck it, I’m feeling a little reckless
Wanna take to you to the backroom just to test it
See if you really got what I need
I ain’t gunna beg or plead
So just drop to your f*cking knees
Go faster, make me scream
Looks like your’re living everybodies dream
If we only have one night in town
Then we’re going down
... Down, down

Midnight rushes, wide awake
Fuelled on booze and bad mistakes
Come inside, stick around
We’ll burn this club to the f*cking ground
Grinding down to that beat
We’ll take this party to the street
Neon signs and golden stars
For one night only
This is ours

They call it a blackout, my mind is a little hazy
Shots of adrenaline for me and my baby
Bottles on the bedroom floor
This wasn’t how I left it
Memories of last night, guess I’ll just reject it
Don’t know what I’ve done
But f*ck it, I guess we both had fun

Don’t know if I’ve ever felt like this
Feels like I’m clutching at straws and your necklace
F*ck it, I’m feeling a little reckless
Wanna take to you to the backroom just to test it
See if you really got what I need
I ain’t gunna beg or plead
So just drop to your f*cking knees
Go faster, make me scream
Looks like your’re living everybodies dream
If we only have one night in town
Then we’re going down
... Down, down”

Track 06 – “We Are One”

Title: “We Are One”
Artist: Kara Romero
From: “Do I Have Your Attention Now?” (2016)
Release Date: April 23, 2016
Length: 4:58
Format: CD Single, Digital Download, Weekly Airplay, 7” Single
Recorded: February – March 2016 – Basement Studios, Brooklyn, New York, US
Genre: Rap, Alternative Hip-Hop, Adult Contemporary
Label: Just Record
Written: February/March 2016
Writer(s): Kara Romero
Producer(s): Kara Romero, TJ Cousins

“We Are One” is the sixth single released from the American rapper ‘Kara Romero’. Marking the culmination of a recent resurgence for the musician which began back in January this year with her track “Same Old Tears”, since that song she has gone on to release two other singles “Perish” and “Where the Real Things Are” and has been praised for the honesty and rawness in her current work. The first of those songs highlighting her own upbringing after losing her mother at a young age and being raised by her father and how she fell into the trappings of alcohol and sex to numb a very real pain that was being felt inside. The follow-up to that was “Perish” which saw Kara show her fighting spirit, having struggled to fully breakthrough into the music industry despite releasing her debut single back in 2012. And she then followed that up with her take on the vanity and fakery of the industry with “Where the Real Things Are”. This new brutally honest lyricism has seen Kara rise to the forefront of her genre with people now anticipating her next release and what subject close to home that she will tackle next.

It appears that this theme is set to continue with her latest offering, “We Are One” which is a heartfelt and emotive call to arms to the entire population in a fight against terror and needless destruction. The backdrop of the song is highlighted early on with a heavy drum beat and a rather aggressive feel as she fires out the opening lines with a passion, “Alright here we go, you got your armour?/Cause we’re living in a world of fuckin’ chaos, a world of fuckin’ drama/Can’t walk down the streets for fear of not makin’ it out alive/Every single day it’s a challenge just to survive/And we’re bolting the doors and pulling the curtains shut/We’re hiding underneath the covers, this shit is fuckin’ rough.” And already it’s distinctly clear where the song is likely to be going from the beginning.
It's the songs pre-chorus which is the highlight of the song, it’s also been posted on social media in the past few weeks and is a repetitive but powerful collection of words that are minimal but very important as Kara asks her audience, “Are you Charlie? Are you Charleston? Are you Paris? Are you Pakistan?/Are you Tunisia? Are you Turkey? Are you Belgium or Japan?.” It’s meaning being that it doesn’t matter where you’re from, it doesn’t matter if terror or destruction is happening where you are, what matters is that it is happening somewhere and we are all humans at the end of the day, she asks are you Charlie, in reference to the Charlie Hebdo attack and does the same for Charleston, Paris, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Belgium and Japan. All are cities which have dealt with something along those lines and it appears that the main point is that terror is affecting everybody from everywhere, not just those involved or those from those cities highlighted on the news.

It’s another powerful effort from Kara Romero as she continues to step up with her output of music, will it continue her recent string of powerful songs. You can find out when the track drops later this evening.

“We Are One”

“Alright here we go, you got your armour?
Cause we’re living in a world of fuckin’ chaos, a world of fuckin’ drama
Can’t walk down the streets for fear of not makin’ it out alive
Every single day it’s a challenge just to survive
And we’re bolting the doors and pulling the curtains shut
We’re hiding underneath the covers, this shit is fuckin’ rough
And we’re surrounded by fear
That we don’t ever make eye contact on the street
This is not how we should be living in the
In the twenty first fuckin’ century

Are you Charlie? Are you Charleston? Are you Paris? Are you Pakistan?
Are you Tunisia? Are you Turkey? Are you Belgium or Japan?
Are you Charlie? Are you Charleston? Are you Paris? Are you Pakistan?
Are you Tunisia? Are you Turkey? Are you Belgium or Japan?
Are you Charlie? Are you Charleston? Are you Paris? Are you Pakistan?
Are you Tunisia? Are you Turkey? Are you Belgium or Japan?

No more single standing
We’re better together
Rid this world of heartache
Until it’s all gone
We’re better together
We are one

Gunshots are the soundtrack to our daily grind
With reporters always stating, ‘they were too young to leave this world behind’
We’re losing good ones by the day and the numbers are getting higher
‘Put your hands up motherfucker we’re about to open fire’
And what did we do to inhabit such destruction
This world don’t need a make-over, it needs a re-construction

Are you Charlie? Are you Charleston? Are you Paris? Are you Pakistan?
Are you Tunisia? Are you Turkey? Are you Belgium or Japan?
Are you Charlie? Are you Charleston? Are you Paris? Are you Pakistan?
Are you Tunisia? Are you Turkey? Are you Belgium or Japan?

No more single standing
We’re better together
Rid this world of heartache
Until it’s all gone
We’re better together
We are one

We’re Charlie, we’re Charleston, we’re Paris, we’re Pakistan
We’re Tunisia, we’re Turkey, we’re Belgium, we’re Japan
We’re Charlie, we’re Charleston, we’re Paris, we’re Pakistan
We’re Tunisia, we’re Turkey, we’re Belgium, we’re Japan
We’re Charlie, we’re Charleston, we’re Paris, we’re Pakistan
We’re Tunisia, we’re Turkey, we’re Belgium, we’re Japan

We’re Charlie, we’re Charleston, we’re Paris, we’re Pakistan

Track 07 – “Perish”

UserPostedImage

Title: “Perish”
Artist: Kara Romero
From: TBA (2016)
Release Date: February 14, 2016
Length: 4:11
Format: CD Single, Digital Download, Weekly Airplay
Recorded: January 2016 – Basement Studios, Brooklyn, New York, US
Genre: Rap, Alternative Hip-Hop, Adult Contemporary
Label: Just Record
Written: December 2015
Writer(s): Kara Romero
Producer(s): Kara Romero, TJ Cousins

“Perish” is the title of the fourth official single released by American rap/adult contemporary artist ‘Kara Romero’, it marks her second single to be released in 2016 after years of struggling to find a breakthrough. Prior to this year, Romero had only released two singles in three years after debuting back in 2012 with ‘My Poison Ivy Lips’. This track is set to continue the anticipation as she builds towards her debut album and is expected to be included on the debut album, prior to that though, she is expected to release an E.P which includes some unreleased tracks that was intended to be released back when she debuted. However, it’s likely that her most recent singles won’t be included on the E.P and kept for her debut album. With the release of ‘Perish’, Romero is having a very strong beginning to the new year, she dropped the single “Same Old Tears” in January which peaked at number #2 in the singles chart, she was also the featured artist on the track “Poster Kids of Pop-Punk” by Riot! in the Boulevard which was released on February 8, 2016 and it has also been confirmed that she’ll be debuting on the big screen in the upcoming independent drama called “One Final Memory” alongside ‘Medina Valback’ where she’s also expected to feature on the movie’s official single. All of this is considered a welcome change from Kara Romero, who has been trying to fully break into the entertainment industry since 2012, she’s suffered many setbacks over the years and for a number of different reasons, she’s just not been able to capitalize on any buzz around her but it appears that 2016 is set to be her year.

The track was written solely by Kara Romero and is considered to be a shot at the fickle nature of the entertainment industry as a whole, in parts it even appears that the song is directly about her struggle to push through as a star, the opening lines signal that possibility as she sings the lyrics, “So, it’s taken a little while for things to pick/After Poison Ivy Lips things started to get a little rough.” As she references her debut single and how she failed to capitalize on what appeared to be her breakout hit. The main focus of the song appears to be on how she’s struggled to make it as an up-and-coming rapper, it’s chorus in particular seems to emphasize that, “They say she will perish and burn/To make room for another wannabe’s turn/They say she’ll burn out and fade/Cause she’s trying to be self-made”. The song however, does take an aggressive and more confident turn as the newly fired-up Kara looks to make her mark on the industry and fight her way to where she wants to be, as she follows up the chorus with the dominant and triumphant refrain, “So fucking come at me with your claws ready to attack/Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back/I can be a whirlwind, tornado on crack/Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back.” It’s catchy and repetitive, whether it can continue where the more emotive ‘Same Old Tears’ left of will remain to be seen, but it shows another layer and dimension to Kara as an artist.

The song was recorded at the ‘Basement Studios’ in Brooklyn, New York, the low-key and understated recording studio has been home to Kara’s musical exploits for the best part of a year now and the track was recorded in January 2016 by Kara and produced by herself along with TJ Cousins like her previous two singles. The pair have been working together on her debut album and his presence has been praised as one of the driving forces behind Kara’s recent resurgence in the music industry. The song is set to be released on February 14, 2016 as a CD Single, Digital Download and will be made available to Weekly Airplay.

“Perish”

“So, it’s taken a little while for things to pick up
After Poison Ivy Lips things started to get a little rough
They got them camera’s flashing and stories printed in all the magazines
How the latest bitch thinks she’s the fucking rap queen
When her friends are calling her the trap queen
But she can only get noticed on the independent scene
And they’re all telling her what she is
But she don’t know a thing about the biz
She’s just making it up as she goes along
Hoping somebody somewhere can relate to her song
And have the courage to fucking fight on
Even when everybody they’ve ever loved has gone
Cause deep inside that’s all she’s doin’
Just tryna pick up the pieces from the wreck and ruins

They say she will perish and burn
To make room for another wannabe’s turn
They say she’ll burn out and fade
Cause she’s trying to be self-made
They say she will perish and burn
Embers quickly turn to ashes
She’s not got what it takes
She’ll need more than those fluttering lashes

So fucking come at me with your claws ready to attack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back
I can be a whirlwind, tornado on crack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back
So fucking come at me with your claws ready to attack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back
I can be a whirlwind, tornado on crack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back

Then I guess the rumours will fly with stories in the press
How she fucked her way to five seconds of fame just like the rest
And her time will be up in the blink of an eye
And her world will come crashing down from the sky
I guess she will never truly make it
Bitch came so close and yet so far
She ain’t ever gonna be a star
And I’m standing here smiling, knowing what’s to come
Cause when I decide I’m ready, I’mma make em’ fucking run
Burn out, fade away
That shit gets old when you hear it every day
You thought that I was timid
I’d never make through
But I can be a fucking monster
Well fuck you boo

They say she will perish and burn
To make room for another wannabe’s turn
They say she’ll burn out and fade
Cause she’s trying to be self-made
They say she will perish and burn
Embers quickly turn to ashes
She’s not got what it takes
She’ll need more than those fluttering lashes

So fucking come at me with your claws ready to attack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back
I can be a whirlwind, tornado on crack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back
So fucking come at me with your claws ready to attack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back
I can be a whirlwind, tornado on crack
Swipe at this bitch and I’ll fucking bite back”

Track 08 - “Sleepless Evenings”

“Lately I’ve been spending my nights with a bottle of rum
See this top shelf liquor helps me forget about my problems quicker
It’s my way of killin’ time until that change does come
Until that day arrives, it helps to kill the pain inside, helps me to feel numb
I’ll jot down some words on the paper and hope it all makes sense
But in the darkest hour it’s clearly just my offence
And it feels like I’m just pretending and always defending
My actions and my words and what it truly means to be heard
To have a voice and a choice and a power to rejoice
To be the greatest and the best, the Ali of hip-hop, the Jay-Z of the west
But instead I’ve got a power struggle of who I want to be
I’m lost and distressed, seriously I’m a fuckin’ mess

So I’ll take a drink from the bottle
It won’t do me no harm
But when I try to put the bottle down
My grip is too strong
I just can’t disarm
And I’m tryin’ to stay calm
But these sleepless evenings
Have gone on for too long

This ain’t even a sophomore slump cause’ I never really debuted
I still get flashbacks to twenty-twelve with that double-vision and déjà vu
That shit keeps me awake at night, this can’t be right
They say you’ll know when you make it
But it’s hard to tell when I’ve worked so hard to fake it
So you can call me what you want
It's no worse than the shit I call myself
But if you knew what went on inside
Maybe you could have seen my cries for help
But I guess it’s hard to hear the screams when they’re silent
And yet you always see the blows when they’re violent
And it’s not like I’m the first person that’s ever tried to fuckin’ make it
I don’t wanna have this obsession to be rich and famous

Caught by the spotlight
Caught by the money
Caught by the stars
Like a bee to fuckin’ honey

So I’ll take a drink from the bottle
It won’t do me no harm
But when I try to put the bottle down
My grip is too strong
I just can’t disarm
And I’m tryin’ to stay calm
But these sleepless evenings
Have gone on for too long"

Track 09 – “Where The Real Things Are”

UserPostedImage

Title: “Where the Real Things Are”
Artist: Kara Romero
From: “Do I Have Your Attention Now?” (2016)
Release Date: March 27, 2016
Length: 5:09
Format: CD Single, Digital Download, Weekly Airplay, 7” Single
Recorded: February 2016 – Basement Studios, Brooklyn, New York, US
Genre: Rap, Alternative Hip-Hop, Adult Contemporary
Label: Just Record
Written: February 2016
Writer(s): Kara Romero
Producer(s): Kara Romero, TJ Cousins

“Where the Real Things Are” is the title of the fifth official single released from the American rap/adult contemporary singer ‘Kara Romero’. The single marks an extremely productive year so far from the musician who has released two singles already this year, the first being the emotive and honest “Same Old Tears” which saw the singer bare her soul as she rapped about the challenges of losing her mother at a young age and the subsequent use of vices that she used to numb the pain of such a loss and lack of a strong female role model. She then followed that up with the strong and confident “Perish” a track where she acknowledged that she may not have built on her potential in her breakthrough year but showed that she’s still got plenty of fight left in her and she was ready to prove doubters wrong. Both of which peaking at number #2 on the singles charts, her highest commercial positions in her career and as well as that she is a star in the April movie ‘One Final Memory’ and has also featured on a single by American rock trio ‘Riot! in the Boulevard’ on the remixed version of their song ‘Poster Kids of Pop-Punk’. It has proven to be a busy year as predicted by media outlets including ‘Culture Uncut’ as the singer is finally closing in on the release of her debut album, something that has been on hold since her debut back in 2012, with label issues and inconsistency being primary reasons for such a huge delay, it’s been said that 2016 will be the year that Romero finally shows her true ability to the music industry and delivers on the potential that many saw back in 2012.

The track was written by Kara in February 2016, inspired by the awards season, the track not only takes a shot at the fakery surrounding the entertainment industry but also at herself for being drawn into the hype, the lyrics in particular, “Alright, so here’s the gist, this is what it fucking is/Cause you’re still pretty new and you ain’t nominated for shit/This is a chance to get some extra hits.” It’s not new for Kara to reference her own shortcomings in her lyrics as she has done in previous singles, most notably “Perish” where she referenced the fact that she never truly lived up to her potential when she originally broke through.
The track continues the hype towards her debut album, recently confirmed to be titled “Do I Have Your Attention Now?” and marks a truly busy beginning to the new year for Kara as she continues to build anticipation towards her long-awaited debut album. The track was recorded in February at Basement Studios in Brooklyn, New York and was produced by Kara alongside TJ Cousins. It will be released on March 27, 2016 as a CD Single, Digital Download, Weekly Airplay and a 7” Single.

Lyrics;

“The hours are ticking down to the big night
Red carpet, fancy dress, suit and tie in front of the spotlight
Like fuck it kid, you’ve really made it
When you’re talking bullshit with the rich and famous
Isn’t this where you always wanted to be?
Staples Center, at the Fan Choice Awards and the Goldies
Wonder if it’s really like how it looks on TV
Everybody talkin’, laughin’, smilin’ showing their white teeth
Now I’m learning
Ain’t nothing like how it looks on TV

Walk up to the red carpet, smiling like I’ve been told to
Paparazzi snap a couple quick ones and I’m hearing, “Kara we don’t want you”
I’m being shuffled inside by security
Not being mean, but your face don’t get us hits like a blurry shot of Izzy
So they take us to the back and run us through the show
There’s management talking for the artists
Backstage demands and more
There’s a newbie being told to get a photo with Weekend
So they can latch onto their fame and snatch a few fans along the way
The fuck is this place?
I’m taken to my seat, told to put a big smile on my face
When the camera pans around, remember that’s the goal from the evening
Make sure you’re seen enough
I guess now, I understand the meaning

Sometimes I wonder where the real things are
Where the real things are, where the real things are
Sometimes I wonder when the lights will go dark
When the lights will go dark, when the lights will go dark
Sometimes I wonder where the real things are
Where the real things are, where the real things are
Sometimes I wonder when the lights will go dark
When the lights will go dark, when the lights will go dark

Alright, so here’s the gist, this is what it fucking is
Cause you’re still pretty new and you ain’t nominated for shit
This is a chance to get some extra hits
So find yourself a singer in the same boat as you
Start some beef and tomorrow they’ll be talkin’ bout you
Your name will be all over TMZ and Twitter
It’s the only way we can make your stock rise quicker

So I’m thinking to myself, man these fuckers can’t be for real
They say a lot of upcoming artists cut this sort of deal
And I’m like nah, I just don’t see how that’s true
But then I’m looking round the room and I’m like oh shit, they do
Got a few guys coming up to me
Asking to take photos and a couple of selfies
I’m like, yeah sure, you seem pretty cool
They like, thanks ma, you know the kinds of rumours this will fuel?
Holy fuck, when will this shit end?
Can’t we just be real and not fucking pretend?
We make music, it’s a passion, an expression, a creative outlet for our aggression
It’s about power, it’s about freedom, it’s about always believing
It’s life, it’s love, it can be everything it can and should
It’s where we can say everything we wanna say
But I guess we lost it
Somewhere along the way

Sometimes I wonder where the real things are
Where the real things are, where the real things are
Sometimes I wonder when the lights will go dark
When the lights will go dark, when the lights will go dark
Sometimes I wonder where the real things are
Where the real things are, where the real things are
Sometimes I wonder when the lights will go dark
When the lights will go dark, when the lights will go dark”

Track 10 - “Do I Have Your Attention Now?”

“Alright, so there you have it
The record many said wouldn’t happen’
Does it make you sad to know that the fuck up actually made it
I’m touring the world now, bitch I’m fuckin’ famous
I guess I’d say that the time away kinda sorta made me
I needed to live my life, go a little batshit crazy
This is just a record of my life
See, I ain’t about to go calling people out
I ain’t one to decorate your back with my knife
I’m just tryin’ to get through
In the hope that it’s all gonna be alright

Here I am standing in front of the crowd
Time for me to take a bow
Do I have your attention now?
Here I am standing in front of the crowd
Time for me to take a bow
Do I have your attention now?
Do I have your attention now?

So, it’s taken a minute to get here
Would you believe me if I said I planned this all from the start, like a lyrical engineer
Chug chug chug, just call me the little engine that could
How many Hispanic rappers can you name that grew up in the hood
But I never came here to start some shit
I just wanted to fuckin’ make it
And I guess I have now
With those airplay charts, world tours, mom I hope I made you proud
Sucks that you ain’t ever got the chance to see this
In a fucked up way, your little girl’s famous
But don’t worry from above, cause I ain’t gonna fall off the tracks like I did before
I’ve got those feet on solid ground
And I know that I’m the one you’ll be looking out for

Here I am standing in front of the crowd
Time for me to take a bow
Do I have your attention now?
Here I am standing in front of the crowd
Time for me to take a bow
Do I have your attention now?
Do I have your attention now?

I ain’t gonna lie, this shit feels pretty great
I guess I always expected to get here, with belief in destiny and fate
See I may have fucked up and I ain’t the best Christian child
I’ve got a reputation in the streets for being a little wild
But that shits over now, no more fucking up
Cos’ I made it through the hard times when things were truly rough
And I know it ain’t gonna be an easy ride
But I know I’ll make it through
Someway, somehow
Look at me standing here
Do I have your attention now?

Here I am standing in front of the crowd
Time for me to take a bow
Do I have your attention now?
Here I am standing in front of the crowd
Time for me to take a bow
Do I have your attention now?
Do I have your attention now?”
