“1937” is the title of the debut E.P from the east coast based rock band 'The Torchlight Revival'. Marking the first official release from the band that formed in Philadelphia in 2017 and were signed to 'Southbound Records' back in the summer of 2019 by Brandon Caulfield. The group consists of lead singer 'Joel Blake', lead guitarist 'Tommy Kramer', bass guitarist 'Jackson Osborne' and drummer 'Brian Egan' and they take influence from 50's and 60's American culture, blending theme's of those era's with elements of our own modern culture with a powerful and modern fast-paced rock and roll sound.
Lead singer and songwriter 'Joel Blake' has stated early on that, “When it comes to writing songs, I don't necessarily think that my primary influence comes from my own favourite music and artists, I think a lot of influence in my songwriting comes from the storytelling of movies and novels and vintage pop culture in general than actually say a Tom Waits record or a Ramones record. When it comes to interests I'm sort of an all or nothing kinda guy, If I'm interested in something then I'm delving as far down that rabbit hole as possible and learning as much about that thing as I possibly can. And I think that sort of dictates my songwriting too.”

The E.P features five songs in total, three originals “Jukebox Casanova's”, “Tell Em'” and title track “1937” as well as two cover songs, “Here Comes A Regular” by The Replacements and “Last Gang in Town” by The Clash. It was recorded at the official recording studio of 'Southbound Records' based in Nashville, Tennessee called 'Blackbird Studios' in October 2019 and was produced by Frankie Dallas and Brandon Caulfield. The process took three days in total to record, produce and mix the E.P before being mastered in the following months before it's release in February 2020.

Title: “Jukebox Casanova's”
Artist: The Torchlight Revival
Length: 4:17

“We've been called the last of the jukebox Casanova's
The dive bar Romeo's in this shitty little town
Slow dancing with the girls who think they were born in the wrong era
With their cowboy boots and their flower crowns
When we sing the choruses together
There's a desire burnin'
Screaming from the top of our lungs
Big wheel keep on turnin'
And we'll go rollin', rollin', rollin' around tonight

The boys with their Whiskey shots
The girls are throwing back Tequila slammers
They're dancin' like fools in the early morning hours
A touch and a kiss under the bar light
Darlin' can I take you home with me tonight
Can I take you home with me tonight

We both know how this story's gonna go
We've both been here before
We'll exchange numbers in the morning
Both fully aware that neither one of us is calling

So can we just have fun for tonight
We'll dance under the stars
In the north eastern moonlight
Sing until we lose our voice
In this shitty little town
That's our only choice

We've been called the last of the jukebox Casanova's
The dive bar Romeo's in this shitty little town
Slow dancing with the girls who think they were born in the wrong era
With their cowboy boots and their flower crowns
When we sing the choruses together
There's a desire burnin'
Screaming from the top of our lungs
Big wheel keep on turnin'
And we'll go rollin', rollin', rollin' around tonight

Rollin', rollin', rollin' around tonight
Rollin', rollin', rollin' around tonight
Rollin', rollin', rollin' around tonight
Rollin', rollin', rollin' around tonight”

Title: “Tell Em'"
Artist: The Torchlight Revival
Length: 4:02

“You can tell Jenny if she ever asks about me
That I'm doing good these days
Even though we know that ain't entirely true
She doesn't need to know that I'm still so lonesome and blue
Tell her that I finally got outta the auto shop
That I'm a published writer now
Or that I'm touring with my band
Tell her that I'm doing better
Don't tell her that I could still use a helping hand

Do the good old boys still drink at Charlie's?
Do they still go racing in the night?
Did Johnny and Sarah ever get married?
I hope to god they're doing alright
Yeah, I hope to god they're still doing alright

Tell em' from me that I wish em' well
Tell em' from me that I wish that I could be there
Tell em' from me that life on the road is good
Tell' em they should come catch a show
Please just don't tell em' what you really know

I read that Mary-Lou got herself an acting gig
No more serving waffles at the diner
Those waffles were shit but the evenings were good
Laughs over coffee and smokes on the hood
That diner driveway was packed forever it seemed
I still long for those memories
They feel like old dreams

Do the good old boys still drink at Charlie's?
Do they still go racing in the night?
Did Johnny and Sarah ever get married?
I hope to god they're doing alright
Yeah, I hope to god they're still doing alright

Tell em' from me that I wish em' well
Tell em' from me that I wish that I could be there
Tell em' from me that life on the road is good
Tell' em they should come catch a show
Please just don't tell em' what you really know”

“Give me a moment to compose myself now
The nurse said she's gonna drain a little of the fluid back out
I said I won't cry but I can't stop the tears running down
We know you're running the clock down
We know you're banking on a little overtime
Before the buzzer goes tonight

I'm hurting on the night that she died
I'm putting every last picture aside
I'll hold your hand til' the very end
I can see you standing at the gates waiting on an old friend

You always said you didn't want to suffer
Said you didn't want to feel pain
So here's to you and your bright baby blues
I hope there's a heaven so that I can see you again
I hope I get a chance to see you someday

And you always said you were happy and satisfied
With the way that you've lived your life
And it was just about waiting for your body to let go
After your mind had given up the ghost

When I close my eyes I can see you
I've never seen a picture so clear and so true
You're standing there with him
In your summer dress
Like it's 1937 again
Just like it's 1937 again

I'm hurting on the night that she died
I'm putting every last picture aside
I'll hold your hand til' the very end
I can see you standing at the gates waiting on an old friend

You always said you didn't want to suffer
Said you didn't want to feel pain
So here's to you and your bright baby blues
I hope there's a heaven so that I can see you again
I hope I get a chance to see you someday

When I close my eyes I can see you
I've never seen a picture so clear and so true
You're standing there with him
In your summer dress
Like it's 1937 again
Just like it's 1937 again”

Title: “Here Comes A Regular" (The Replacements Cover)
Artist: The Torchlight Revival
Length: 4:30

"Well a person can work up a mean mean thirst
after a hard day of nothin' much at all
Summer's passed, it's too late to cut the grass
There ain't much to rake anyway in the fall

And sometimes I just ain't in the mood
to take my place in back with the loudmouths
You're like a picture on the fridge that's never stocked with food
I used to live at home, now I stay at the house

And everybody wants to be special here
They call your name out loud and clear
Here comes a regular
Call out your name
Here comes a regular
Am I the only one here today?

Well a drinkin' buddy that's bound to another town
Once the police made you go away
And even if you're in the arms of someone's baby now
I'll take a great big whiskey to ya anyway

Everybody wants to be someone's here
Someone's gonna show up, never fear
'cause here comes a regular
Call out your name
Here comes a regular
Am I the only one who feels ashamed?

Kneeling alongside old Sad Eyes
He says opportunity knocks once then the door slams shut
All I know is I'm sick of everything that my money can buy
The fool who wastes his life, God rest his guts

First the lights, then the collar goes up, and the wind begins to blow
Turn your back on a pay-you-back, last call
First the glass, then the leaves that pass, then comes the snow
Ain't much to rake anyway in the fall"

Track: 05
Title: “Last Gang In Town" (The Clash Cover)
Artist: The Torchlight Revival
Length: 5:07

"Everybody's looking for last gang in town
You better watch out for they're all comin' around

The sport of today is exciting
The in crowd are into infighting
When some punk sees some rock-olla
It's rock and roll all over
In every street and every station
Kids fight like different nations
And it's brawn against brain
And it's knife against chain
But it's all young blood
Flowing down the drain

The Crops hit the Stiffs
An' the Spikes whipped the Quiffs
They're all looking 'round

For the last gang in town

Meanwhile down in black town
Those old soul rebels are haingin' around
An' when some punk come alooking for sound
Rastaferi goes to ground
The white heart flipped his pocket dipped
'Cos a black sharp knife never slips
And they never say to one antoher
That tomorrow we might kill our brothers

Down from the edge of London
The rockabily rebels came
From another edge of London
Skinhead gangs call out their name
But not the Zydeco kids
From the high rise
Though they can't be recognized
When you hear a cajun fiddle
Then you're nearly in the middle
Of the last gang in town"

OOC: We can always count on you to introduce new acts that are different in sound and style and I think that’s great for the forum. The lyrics here are top notch. My favorite track here is “Last Gang In Town”. I’m looking forward to what you do with The Torchlight Revival. Nice work :)
