 Written by Jo Frankson, Carla Stevenson, Mark Moore and John Lincoln, 'Venom' is the new Rock Rap single released by the ex-Titan on December 7th, 2020 through the 'Studio60' record label.
It had been a while since Frankson had been into a recording studio, his last recorded music was back in 2015 with the Dance, Electronica group the Titans. His last music as a solo artist was released back in 2012. So, 8 years later, Jo comes back to music still with the scary, disturbing sound that was part of his solo music and visuals, more made into the Dance, Electronic R'n'B genre before but this time he seems to be going harder on his lines. This time, a more rocky, aggressive route is taken by the singer and in 'Venom' that is easily shown by the angry felt tone of the guitar in the background that follows the spoken-rap of Jo which turns at times into a full on rage with shouts and almost seems to forget the singing as the Titan, but it seems now more about Rapping, shouting, raging on a track. Jo proves to be controversial like his personality after being on newspapers during these 8 years for attacks on paparazzis, alcoholic behaviours, a divorce with Pop singer and presenter Ugenia while his children had been taken away from him quite a few times for his erratic life. On his most recent public appearance, Jo showed his mad wildness on 'La Isla' reality where he ended up eating raw fishes alive, didn't wash for days and generally acted really on the extreme limits of civilization. So the rage shown by the track, especially by his vocals and the huge guitar sound behind doesn't surprise at all but only shows another side of the crazy singer.
The lyrics are easy to interpet yet show a full angry view on a matter that would seem personal to Jo. In fact, he compares first the virus to something that always spread on in the world and that seems to be dishonesty, fake people and hypocrisy. Jo raps about how most people get horrified or get scared when someone opens up about their problems but always fakes about how they'd be there to give support, yet asking the same person to 'put on a mask with a smile', force an happiness and get on with it, while who suffers is still there in pain because happiness is easier to confront.
This is definately something Jo might have gone through in his life, especially recently after his children were taken away, he fell deeper into gambling and alcohols and few people were there to help him as he stated, others who said were gonna be there just went off radar.
Another part of the rap as it continues, it talks about people who go more into 'Attention rather then intention', this hinting at the huge amount of research of appearance rather than what's really in it. Most would look at things and people for the attention they get, for just what they are outside, but not for what they really offer or are able to.
