ARE YOU READY FOR AN EXCLUSIVE LOOK AT ANOTHER TRACK FROM THE ALBUM?! I thought so. This is one of the mroe traditional tracks, and the shortest "proper" track on the album. It is Crystal Urn.
Crystal Urn (Extreme Metal/ Industrial Metal) (3:19)
Erratic and quite creepy industrial noises in a sequence begin the song. In the background, you can hear screaming noises, sounding like people in deep pain. Over the top of this, you start to hear some extremely fast and heavy shredding. This continues for about 10 seconds or so, until a huge spree of drums changes the whole atmosphere of the song. The screaming noises fade out and the riff descends into an erratic speed metal structure. The drums are traditional heavy metal. In this song in particular, the bass line is quite technical. It is clearly audible over the rest of the song and changes from rapid arpeggios at one point to a sequence of two notes at other points. When it comes to the first verse, the opening line has just the guitar in it, before the rest of the instruments return to their normal positions. All of the lyrics in this song are screamed. In the verses, it is a high pitched, more black metal-esque scream like latter day Mind, whereas it is the harsh growling sounds reminiscent of their early days as an alt metal band. When it comes to the chorus, it musically takes a slightly different route as well. Instead of the complicated thrashy riff, it turns into an industrial, Meshuggah-like riff and goes a bit slower. In the link between each verse and chorus, there is a little drum fill. When it comes down to the bridge, both guitars go into a mixture of arpeggios and mini guitar duel solos. The vocals are still guttural, but seem more like strained talking than screaming. At the end of the song, every instrument goes into overdrive and the vocals are similar to that of hardcore punk. To mark the end of the song, Robert does a drum roll.
Lyrics:
A scratch in the flesh, A banshees cry, The soul of mine she hath break, Wall of mesh, Another lie, How much more can you take?
The silent saint, Rests lonesome here, The children laugh, shattered, All this for me?, You shouldn’t have, Oh, I really am so flattered.
I’ll show you pain... like never before, Take my word, treacherous whore, No longer am I tainted by your words.
A scream from your mouth, Blood running now, This is all for the better, I tell myself, Yet all in vain, I knew I should never have let her...
I’ll show you pain... like never before, Take my word, treacherous whore, No longer am I tainted by your words. I’ll show you pain... like never before, Take my word, treacherous whore, No longer am I tainted by your words.
I could come down for you, I would go down for you, I could come down for you, I would go...
I’ll show you pain... like never before, Take my word, treacherous whore, No longer am I tainted by your words.
I’ll show you pain... like never before, Take my word, treacherous whore, No longer am I tainted by your words.
No longer am I tainted, No longer am I tainted, No longer am I tainted by these words unsure.
Jason: “This is probably the highest octane, pure, relentless metal song we have on the album. It has certain moments that can be likened to our early days, but it also has that certain ambience that we put on all of our newer albums. I’m not going to say it’s the heaviest on the album, when we have songs like TCS III: Black, but it’s certainly up there. I think all of our devoted fans will like this particular song because it has a nostalgic quality about it. I think it comes well off of The Nights Shore, since it goes from the brink of insanity to just full blown madness such as this. It is absolutely fucking bonkers. When we were tracking the album, my voice almost started to go during this song, which was pretty annoying. Luckily, I managed to squeeze enough out to complete this. It then gets peculiar when it goes into Monolith...” |
