Meet Me By The River’s Edge

UserPostedImage

Stacey Walton is walking through town on her visit to the USA, she’s currently in Manhattan, New York on her trip to the USA, the rain is pouring down onto the street and she has nothing to shelter her, she’s just finished recording another part of her EP and it’s nearing it’s completion, She walks out of the studio and into the craziness that is a Saturday evening in Manhattan, if she’s not being stopped by people asking for photo’s or autographs, she’s being almost trampled on by the New York locals and in this big city it’s hard to feel famous.

Stacey is starting to get annoyed by the craziness of the New York shoppers and it’s starting to show, trying desperately to regroup herself and continue on through the streets dodging homeless people and manoeuvring her way through the crowds to try and get to some sort of peaceful area, it just doesn’t happen in New York.

As she makes her way towards a quiet looking cafe, the crowds continue to barge their way through the streets ignoring her as she says excuse me, clearly getting more frustrated she continue’s onwards towards the café.
The crowds continue to push their way towards their destinations and one rather large man, eating a beef burger and holding a diet cola in his hand pushes his way past and knocks Stacey to the floor, the man ignores what he’s done and continue’s on while Stacey helps herself back to her feet, her clothing now completely soaked through. Nobody pays attention and she looks very frustrated

She’s now at the café and hurries inside. She sits down at a table in the furthest corner of the café and scrapes around her handbag for some loose change to order a coffee. Just my luck she thinks to herself, She scrapes around some more and finally finds enough change to get a drink, a waitress walks over.

Waitress: Crazy weather huh?
Stacey: Yeah just a bit. *smiles* Brushes her soaking wet hair out of her eyes.
Waitress: *smiles back* Can I get you something?
Stacey: Yeah just a coffee please.

The waitress goes and makes a coffee. While waiting for the coffee Stacey takes her mobile phone out of her bag and begins dialling.

Stacey: (on phone) Hey, where are you?
Phone Guy: I’m at the Met
Stacey: Ok look I need to get away from this place, otherwise I’m gonna kill someone, It’s pouring down with rain and I don’t know anyone here are you doing anything tonight.
Phone Guy: No nothing at all, we can meet up and take a couple of days away if you want
Stacey: Yeah that would be great, where do you wanna meet up
Phone Guy: Do you know how to get to the Raquette River
Stacey: Nah, I’m sure a cab driver will though
Phone Guy: Alright we can meet up there in say an hour
Stacey: Yeah I’ll see you there

The waitress comes back over with the coffee, Stacey quickly drinks it to warm herself up and gathers her stuff and heads to the door after paying for the drink. As she’s about to leave an elderly man stops her.

Old Man: Excuse me, but would you like an umbrella young lady?
Stacey: Oh no thanks, your gonna need that when you go out into the rain.
Old Man: Don’t worry about me, I’m used to it, you look like your gonna need it
Stacey: Really I can’t take it from
Old Man: I’m not gonna take no for an answer
Stacey: Umm, well if that’s the case then thank you, it’s really appreciated, (She kisses the old man on the cheek before leaving)

Stacey hails a cab and it makes it’s way to the Raquette River. They arrive at the river 15 minutes later, Stacey quickly runs into a nearby cabin/gift shop after paying the cab driver and is soon met by Joe Dayton. It’s currently 11:30pm.

Stacey: Oh hey there you are
Joe: Yeah did you think I wasn’t gonna show up
Stacey: Kind of
Joe: Oh come on you sounded like you were upset and feeling pretty lonely, of course I was gonna show up
Stacey: Thanks, it’s good to know I can rely on you
Joe: Yeah well that’s what I’m here for, so you got any plans to do something
Stacey: Like what, an adventure
Joe: Well we could build a fire, the rain seems to have stopped spend a freaky night in the woods.
Stacey: I’m not sleeping in the woods though, as long as you promise to stay awake.
Joe: Ok so what’s this about you wanting to get away from New York
Stacey: I just feel so lonely being stuck in either the studio or the apartment, I wanna go somewhere different
Joe: Well I’ve got some ideas.

They head out towards the river, picking up sticks along the way, they start building a fire and settle down by the river for the night, they stay up for 4-5 hours just talking about anything and everything, before deciding on something.

Joe: Ok so this is it, So I used to visit Charlotte, North Carolina with my family when I was younger and I used to love it there, how about we head to Carolina for a week away from New York.
Stacey: Yeah you know how to get there?
Joe: Yeah but it would involve buying a car or hitching a ride
Stacey: Well considering neither of us can drive maybe we should hitch a ride, Either way there’s a chance we could die.
Joe: Yeah, that’s just the chances we have to take.

OOC: Ok so I thought I'd try something completely different, let me know if it's worth doing the next part which I'm planning on writing. I'm aware that this may not seem to have a reason behind it but I kind of wanted it to sort of show a different side to Stacey, she's in New York and she's completely out of her comfort zone, hopefully that came across, I also wanted to develop the friendship between her and Joe, anywhoo hope you liked it.

OOC : Go for it! I love these kind of stories. And your writing's on top form, as per usual. (:

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."

- Stephen King
