 Good Morning Jennifer, it’s nice to meet you.
Jennifer: It’s nice to meet you too and it’s awesome to be here.
So it’s gonna be a big year for you, you’ve recently announced your debut single.
Jennifer: Yeah, I recorded my debut single and I’ve had some good comments about it which is very nice to hear so hopefully it will be a good year.
And for those of us who don’t know, what is the name of your debut single?
Jennifer: Umm, it’s called Queen Bee. It’s a straight up pop track, it’s fun and it’s a happy song. Hopefully people will enjoy it.
And your still working on an album?
Jennifer: Yeah, we’ve got a lot of material to choose from and it’s gonna be a little while before we announce a release date for it but we’re working hard on recording the album.
So how come the single is already recorded?
Jennifer: I always knew that I wanted Queen Bee to be the first single because I love that track and Malory (Evans) thought it would be a good idea to record Queen Bee and put it out before we’ve even started on the album. It’s good to get a buzz going or something, I don’t really know about the whole business of the industry but I trust Malory knows how to get things moving.
And are you working closely with your label boss?
Jennifer: Yeah, I mean she’s not in the studio everyday but she’s been checking in and we’ve had a lot of phone calls and video chats. She’s a busy woman so I don’t expect her to be around all the time but she’s been great and she dropped by the studio a couple of times, she’s an amazing person and she knows how the record industry works which definitely helps her with her job.
Any title’s for the album yet?
Jennifer: At the moment, I think we might just go with a self titled album, so just my name Jennifer Armstrong or maybe just Jennifer. But we haven’t really thought about that yet, I’m just happy to take my time with it and savour it.
And any special guests on the album?
Jennifer: Yeah, well that’s the plan. We haven’t made any requests yet, apart from the producers of my debut single, The Wolverines. But we haven’t made any contact with people I wanna work with yet.
Who will you be looking to maybe feature on your album?
Jennifer: There is so many people I would love. I don’t want too many people on the album though because I want it to remain mostly just me. But I’d love, Nadia Berry, Brittany Knox, Ryan Ross Hernandez, Michelle Green, Ashley Perry, Dan Richerds, Fathers Of Fury, Eric Quillington, Chloe, Hard Sugar maybe and too many more to mention, any one of those listed would be great but we’ll see what fits best and what would work and what wouldn’t and then maybe attempt to get some people.
Sounds like a lot of ideas, what can we generally expect from your album?
Jennifer: I think it’s obvious that it’s gonna be mainly a pop record. Although I think there will be something for everyone. Like the guys shouldn’t be put off just because it’s a pop album by a 19 year old girl because there’s gonna be a lot of guitars and drums and it’s gonna have quite a mix. I’d say it’s somewhere between pop and rock. I’d like to call it guitar-pop.
And how has the attention been on you?
Jennifer: It’s been very tough for me. Like anyone who has read culture uncut has seen two story’s about me being annoyed by a photographer. I don’t like it but I guess I gotta get used to it. It’s tough for me because they’re in your face all the time and it’s really tough to keep calm and smile when really I just wanna make them go away. I love how easily people like Brittany Knox and Nadia Berry deal with that kind of thing, they always seem so calm but I just can’t deal with it.
I’m sure you’ll get used to it pretty soon.
Jennifer: I hope so, otherwise I think I just might go crazy. (laughs)
