CJ Wilde
About CJ Wilde in their own words
Caroline June Whitaker grew up singing in a white clapboard church outside Tulsa, Oklahoma. She sang her first solo there at six. The congregation said she had a gift, and her mother said she had a lot of opinions.
The town expected its daughters to be modest and agreeable, to marry young and never be too much. CJ loved the place and its people, but she never made herself smaller to fit. Her grandmother, who taught her to sing harmony, called her "my wild one." When CJ needed a name to perform under, it was the only one she considered.
Now 22, CJ makes big, bold pop with a thread of home running through it: gospel harmonies, a touch of pedal steel and choruses made for singing back. She's calm, warm and unshakeable. She doesn't explain herself, and she doesn't shrink.
CJ Wilde is just getting started.
