ZANDER GRAY

BIO
Born to a hippy family somewhere in the vast Canadian wilderness and subsequently adopted by a middle aged couple living in the small town of Hope, B.C., Zander Gray is a musical anomaly. As a child, he was diagnosed with both Attention Deficit Disorder and Bipolar Disorder, both which contribute significantly to his music. Although just now breaking into the modern music scene, he's been a part of the underground music scene ever since he was a teenager, playing guitars, drums, bass, and vocals is several different bands with genres ranging from hardcore punk to death metal to psychedelic rock. His newest endeavor as a solo artist is what he considers to be his first serious venture into the music industry, though, and he is currently working on two separate albums, completely different in sound, theme and material. He plans to release them both independently. "There's something for everybody," he says. "I've got some mellow stuff, some crazy stuff, some stupid stuff, and some really heavy stuff, so no matter what your taste, there'll be something for you. Or not. No promises."

Zander: This is what happens when you live in the backwoods of Canada. The cold is no good for your scalp! I figured if I kept the rest of it long it would make up for it but...I guess that didn't work.

TITLE: Awake
GENRE: Experimental Rock, Progressive Rock, Soft Rock
LABEL: Self Released/Independent

The song begins with a few seconds of ambient nature noises, wind, and faint flute, sounding almost new-agey, before reverb-soaked acoustic guitar begins playing big, spacey sounding chords. This continues for a few seconds before a layer of multitracked guitars begin playing, all playing different chord progressions. The wall of sound is almost overwhelming. Zander's vocals come in, multitracked to sound like a chorus of vocals, humming. After a bit, the guitars fade out until only one is left, playing simple chords, as the vocals begin, soft and soothing,

days awake never felt like this
stay away, i've never felt like this
and its not too late, i've done it all before
and its not too late, to find the open door

sometimes i wish i'd never been born
sometimes i wish i didn't love the world
but its too late to regret it all just yet
it's not time to complain about that yet

the guitar begins playing a simple, muted arpeggio, but before too long the wall of guitars come back, playing different variations of the main guitar line, as Zander's vocals become softer and more secretive sounding,

the wind is soft
the rain is warm
the clouds are gone
devoid of storms

the rain is light
the sun is bright
with open arms
i'll hug the light

The instruments fade out until it's just the ambient nature noises, and a few strums of guitar are heard, echoing long after their gone. Faintly, thunder can be heard in the background, before the wall of guitars come back, playing complicated arpeggios and licks, more and more appear in the mix until its almost overwhelming, until suddenly, all of them leave but the main guitar, playing simple chords again,

but it's getting dark and it's time to go inside
it's getting cold and i feel that i must hide
but ain't it funny how, when it feels like you can't win
you can break right through into the day again

The rain and thunder noises get louder until they're punctuated by a single, loud cymbal crash that resonates long after, the main guitar plays a muted arpeggio that seems out of place amongst the rain sounds,

the winds are cold
the sun is warm
the cola's cold
i'm coming home

The rain and thunder get louder, the flute from the beginning plays a few mournful notes, and the volume of the rainfall increases until everything is drowned out with white noise.

Erica: oh,if you want I could ask about the hair. Why keep the rest of it long? it kinda looks like a hula skirt on an egg.

Nina: oh my god,Erica! That was a total bitchcake thing to say, love. If you have any hope of being a good mother, you'll have to tone it down.

Erica: what do you know?! You did porn!

Nina: it's a good thing Natalya is going to carry the baby, you have no boobs!

NEWS UPDATE

UserPostedImage

Hey there assorted boys, girls, and household pets! Zander Gray here, and I'm updating this from the road, where I haven't had much sleep at all in the last week or so. Which is why I'm rambling on...like led zeppelin. Or a rambling man. Nevertheless I find it my duty to inform you of my current musical endeavors! Because that's just the type of cat I am. Either that or I'm just really lonely out here on the road and want to reach out and communicate with people other than the people at the drive thru at wendy's when I get my tour dinner. Regardless, currently I'm wracking my brain and trying to finish five completely different mini-album things. Well, some might be long enough to be considered albums but they're mostly EP's, and the main deal is that all five of them are different theme-wise and music-wise. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll give you a quick run down. The first one (which I've got about 80% recorded) is kind of a soft rockish, atmospheric and introspective record that I wrote mostly about my home, my childhood, and living in the middle of buttfuck nowhere in Canada. The second album is an ambient, progressive and experimental album i wrote mostly while stoned and wandering the countryside, admiring nature. Then, I've got a very epic sounding, very dense kind of pop-metal record that will have a lot of big, soaring choruses and synths and basically a lot of ear candy, which will probably the most accessible record. Then, just to trump all accusations of being a sellout, I've got an industrial death metal/grindcore/noise album that I've been writing since I was twenty. And the last album is a happier, kind of looking back at all the shit that happened type album with a lot of ballads. Holyfuckingshit! I'm one busy little bald beaver, aren't I? Well, in the meantime, keep your stick on the ice, come see me and Jesus Knievel on tour, and if you want to be a superstar, buy a guitar, put on some metallica and give a little James-Hetfieldian YEAYUH! Namaste.
