OOC - possibly and probably have stolen a lot (all) of my ideas from the IMAs/Birdies...hopefully it achieves even a tiny little bit of what those awards have done.

@CHAOS AWARDS I - DATE + VENUE TBC

Good evening ladies, gents and lady-gents! Oh and of course Mr Capps...cant forget those straggly in-between sorts, no discrimination here at this magazine! My name is Scott, and I am your @Chaos Magazine editor! We have summoned you all here tonight for a special special announcement.

First of all though, I would like to raise a glass to everyone who has read @Chaos in it's opening month. So far, the magazine has had a storming circulation of around 40,000 copies! This is beyond an amazing achievement and really bodes well to the future of the music magazine industry...so a huge huge thanks to anyone and everyone who bought, stole, borrowed or blagged a copy of issue 1, and we hope you come back for more next month!

Anyway, I digress, back to our big announcement...it has been no secret over the last week or so, that we have a desire to unleash an awards show into the industry to at least attempt to rival the brilliant spectacle that is the Birdies. So, I stand here before you tonight to tell you, in an official capacity, that the first @CHAOS AWARDS will be taking place sometime in the near future. This is an absolute guarantee and despite having no solid date or venue as of yet, we are 100% going ahead with what will doubtless be the biggest challenge of our collective life.

So, without any further interruption or bullshit from me, here is the format and rules for the first @CHAOS AWARDS....oh and the first stage is now officially OPEN!!!

Cheers and have a good night, champagne's on me!

-Scott- Ed - @Chaos

The Format

-The @Chaos Awards will operate on a three stage format.

- Stage One (this stage) will involve the nominations of all the bands and artists for various available awards.

- Stage Two will involve the panel of, ahem, "experts" choosing the winners from the lists of nominees.

- Stage Three is the actual awards show on the night, when we all find out who wins!

The Rules - Stage One

- OK, so this is important right now. We use this thread for PLUGGING only. Each of you may plug as many of your own artists for as many awards as you like. As with the Birdies before this, IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A NOMINATION! Just tell us in this thread why you believe each of your artists should win whichever award you are plugging them for...simples (squeak)

- The other required element of this stage, of course, is the nominations themselves...YOU MUST PM ME YOUR NOMINATIONS, DO NOT POST THEM HERE. Everyone is free to nominate in this stage. Just copy n paste the list of categories and tell me which artist you wish to nominate for each one. THE STRICT RULE IS THAT YOU CANNOT NOMINATE ANY OF YOUR OWN ARTISTS! Anyone doing so will have all of their nominations voided.

- All nominated artists will be announced in the next issue of @CHAOS, due out in two weeks time, you will have to read it to find out if you are nominated for any awards(see what I did there? ;) ).

The Categories

Probably quite important now to mention these. We do have a lot of them, more than the Birdies, and I've probably bitten off more than I can chew, but fuck it, I'll give it a go!

Best Live Artist - Blood Of Wecz - http://www.therockstarga....aspx?g=posts&t=4331 - Blood Of Wecz were voted as the overall WINNERS of the Delta Tau Battle of The Bands 4! Read the final thrilling performance at the the link over there that I just posted.

Icon Award - Blood Of Wecz - http://www.therockstarga....aspx?g=posts&t=1841

Fifteen albums and 20 years later, Blood Of Wecz have been a death metal stalwart band for a huge chunk of their careers. They have influenced many bands such as Mind, Black Gold Reign and many many more. Never changing from their trademark sound and always hitting hard and having fun, Blood OF Wecz shaped the genre in which they excelled for so long, until the tragic death of their lead singer Scott H. They were death metal's true icons until the very end, and they let everyone know it!

My Plugs

Best Band- Long Nights: This alternative band comprised of party animals Ryan Page and Warren McGriff, sensitive guy Blake Renwick, and quiet Christopher Myers has only appeared recently, yet, they've already released one studio album, an album of demo tapes, and are working on another one now. They already are huge in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, as well as Europe. Their albums have both sold in the millions and their debut album is still selling after forty weeks. This is a feat that happens rarely.

Best Performance in Alternative Music- Long Nights: With a widly varying sound, going from quiet, acoustic ballads to full on, Beastie Boys style rap, you can never know what to expect from this band. they try to keep every single souding fresh, new, and different.

Best Newcomer: Long Nights

Best Artwork- (OOC: There's a lot, so I'll post links, click the titles)
Long Nights- Black Hole
Long Nights- Forgive [Revelation]
Long Nights (Featuring Act Of God)- Run Along
Long Nights- One More Night
Long Nights- Midnight Hour

Best Album- Long Nights- Midnight Hour: The amazing debut album from one of the biggest alternative rock bands around now showcases an amazing amount of talent, from the raw emotion in Razorblades and Black Magic as Ryan sings about one of the most painful experiences of his life, to the party anthem One More Night that is guarenteed by the band to start an automatic party anywhere. This album also features another new band Act Of God on the song about a runaway girl, Run Along.

Best Single- Long Nights- Brightest Before Dusk: The title track from Long Night's next album clocks in at an amazing 8:48 of emotional vulnerability from guitarist and lead vocals for this song Warren McGriff. Featuring Ryan Page's full classical training, as well as Chris's beautiful cello playing and Blake's use of orchestral percussion, this song always brings the audience to tears because of the raw emotion it carries.

Best Band and Best Performance in Alternative Music: Reckoner
Reckoner have proven themselves to be one of the best newcomers back in the IMAs when they snatched two out of the three awards they have been nominated for namely the Best Newcomer and Best Live Act. Now Reckoner are back and they are better than ever, seriously. The band's complex style of music and continuous innovation of sound has gained them respect from legendary musicians like Regan Futrell, Jakey Comatose, the late Scott H. and many more. Their sophomore album Backstabber has been praised by critics and even charted in numerous regions gaining the band's 1st number one spot in the US, now all those who said the band were only one hit wonders with Invisible were put to shame. Reckoner also never disappoint when it comes to pleasing their fans since they deliver great performance after great performance even earning the 2nd place at the previous Delta Tau Battle of the Bands. Now they continue to prove their worth to be nominated as Best Band

simple yet elegant..

Best Album
Backstabber is the second album by the British alternative rock band Reckoner, released on May 05, 2010 despite the talks that it would be released 5 days later on May 10. The album was produced and engineered by Ryan Ross Hernandez, Liam O'Mally, and Regan Futrell in the V-Records Studios from April 2-May 3 2010. The album marks a change in musical style of the band from its pop rock sound in Invisible to a variety of musical genres like psychedelic, post-grunge, and even metal. Even Troy Mascenon has expanded his lyrical themes with themes about gun violence, prostitution, phobias, and many more. The album's artwork was created by Dale Tucker, who directed all music videos from the band's debut album.

The album has also released two singles Slow Down and Falling Down, with the former peaking at # 28 in the UK Charts and the latter peaking at #2 making it the first single of the band to enter the Top 5. The band has stated that they are to release two more singles off the album in the coming weeks.

Best Single
Blackout is the fourth single released by Reckoner from their second studio album Backstabber, this single also marks the end of the so-called Backstabber era of the band and they are off to touring for a few months before going back to work on their next album. The song is said to have been the darkest song ever written by the band. It features the first ever use of orchestral accompaniment by the band, soft melodic arpeggios in the key of B, and vocal tracks sung by all members of the band. The single also contains the B-Side Morning Show, considered by the band as the best B-side they have ever written.

UserPostedImage

Tracklisting:
1.Blackout(Mascenon)

-written in the darkest hour of his life, the song was considered by songwriter Troy himself as the saddest and darkest song he has ever written. "It was written at the time when I critically overdosed on Cocaine a few years back, I was going through depression and I wasted all my money on the drugs, it was the only thing that comforted me during those times, I wasn't thinking. One night I got so hooked on it that I used so much and next thing I remember was seeing the light, I woke up 3 days later in the hospital and everyone close to me was there, it was the worst experience I have ever known and I don't wanna go through it ever again." says Troy. The song features the first orchestral accompaniment the band has ever used, it was said that JC wrote the orchestral parts. The song is built up on guitar arpeggios in the key of B, slow drums and a double bass accompanying the slow tempo of the song, and the band singing in a choir-like style during the outro of the song.

2.Morning Show(Mascenon)
-the song was written originally to be a happy song but was later revised into a disturbing story teller. The song talks about a man obsessed with a TV Host he sees on the Morning Show everyday, he then stalks the woman by writing an I Love You sign at her car's tinted window, sending chocolates and flowers to her, and finally breaking into her house, the song ends with a chase inside her home and finally the cops arrive after a neighbor calls 911, the stalker attempts to stab the TV Host but he is then shot by the cops and the TV Host was sent to therapy. The song is built up by a sexy guitar riff, distorted drums and bass, flanging, and Troy's soft voice.

Reckoner Live at Teignmouth, Devon

Teignmouth is home to Reckoner, one of the greatest new bands in present time. Many of the band’s early achievements have been witnessed by their hometown; this is where they met each other, where they played their first gigs, had their first taste of music release, and where they even lost their virginity… to music. After receiving a phone call from Katie Kairiri, the organizer of the Delta Tau Battle of the Bands, telling them that they can choose whatever venue they would want to play for the finals, Reckoner wasted no time and quickly packed their bags, checked out of the Dirty Bastard, and went straight home to prepare for the greatest battle of their lives. They reached Teignmouth at exactly noon but instead of going straight to their own houses, they had to talk to the mayor first about having the gig. The mayor gladly permitted Reckoner to play the gig at The Den and even offered to set up the stage for free, they were given 5 hours before show time. The band had enough time to take a rest and calm their selves before the show so they all went home for lunch. After an hour, the band met up with each other at JC’s house to discuss what songs to play and practice them..

JC: Man, I miss this place so much! It’s been, like, ages since I last slept here!

Troy: Yeah, it sure does feel good to finally come home...

JC: Yeah, now back to business, what songs should we play?

JPC: Why don’t we play our new songs?

Tristan: I agree with JPC, play the new songs to give the fans the something well, new!

Troy: Well you guys have a point, playing the same songs over and over might seem pretty boring, who votes on playing new material?

All five members of the band raise their hands, agreeing on playing the new material for the free concert. They plugged in their instruments and had a simple soundcheck before practicing the new songs.

10 minutes before the gig…

Reckoner arrive backstage with their tour bus, immediately handing out their instruments to the stage crew, who only needed the band’s instruments to complete the stage. Now it has finally come, the show has just started and the spotlights roam around the venue as excited fans cheer energetically for their hometown heroes. Reckoner gently walk out of the backstage and into the view of the audience, they are met with a great applause as they go into their respective positions. All instruments have been tuned by the band and plugged in by the stage crew so they didn’t have to worry anymore about tuning onr plugging their instruments, they just needed to play..

Troy: Good evening Teignmouth! (Audience cheers loudly)

Carl: It’s good to be home!

Troy: Well today is gonna be the epic finale of one of the greatest battles in the history of music. Today is the finals of the Delta Tau Battle of the Bands and we are going up against two of the greatest metal bands ever; the legendary Blood of Wecz, and the future legends Mind! If ever you are going up against two great live acts, you really have to put up a damn good show, am I right? (Audience cheers even more loudly) So please give it up for my band, and Teignmouth’s own, Reckoner!

The audience cheer once more time as Troy is handed out his acoustic Martin guitar. The spotlight focuses on Troy and Troy only. Troy plays this chord progression which seemed so similar to the fans that they even applauded. The song was Slow Down without any other musical accompaniment but the guitar. The acoustic version is more intimate and emotional than the original because while Troy sings the chorus, everybody in the crowd is given a chance to sing along. One of the most beautiful things a musician can witness is when fans sing along to his music, it’s just like seeing your baby say his first word. Troy was nearly crying and had to let the people sing the chorus, he got so emotional with the song but he still had to play it to the end. The audience applauded as Troy gave his Martin guitar to the crew member, who in exchange gave him his famous Telecaster.

Troy: That was good everybody, you nearly made me cry! (Audience laughs) So this next song, you might have heard from our Blur EP, it’s a psychedelic trip to some weird shitty wonderland, its called Daydream!

Daydream is a psychedelic song with dominant whammy pedals and JPC’s first song playing the slap bass technique. The song starts of with JC who plays the lead whammy, and Troy who plays a few notes on clean guitar. The whole band then comes in with Carl’s slightly distorted guitar, JPC’s slap bass, and Tristan’s snare and hi-hat combo. The green and yellow lights complement the psychedelic feel of the song. The song, as Troy explained is a psychedelic trip to wonderland with meaningless lyrics, groovy beats, and Carl\s crazy back up vocals which use this ghostly effect. The chorus is consisted of a different chord progression for Carl and even more complicated riffs from JC, the crowd seemed to like the song pretty much as they tried to sing along the catchy hook. After another verse and another chorus, the solo then comes in. The solo is played by JC’s whammy guitar as Carl plays the intro chord progression and Troy just played with his guitar’s delay. The song ends with another whammy riff by JC followed by a loud applause from the audience.

Troy: Thank you, glad you liked that song!

Troy grabs his water bottle from the amplifier standing next to him and drinks from it, rehydrating his voice for the next song..

Troy: This next song is inspired by a band called Mind, JC and I wrote it right after the Chromosome 13 Tour and I guess you guys would like it; it’s called Lock N Load...

The song’s intro is consisted continuous strumming of distorted power chords by Carl and Troy followed by JC’s tremolo picking and Tristan’s hi-hat, metronome like sound. The song then explodes with JC’s metal riff, Troy and Carl playing the power chords, JPC playing an extremely complex bassline, and Tristan playing heavily on his drums to the point where it looks like he wants to destroy his own drums. The flickering lights accompany the sound of the riff giving that metal feel to the song. The song’s lyrics are very brutal and talk about man’s abuse of guns and their addiction to violence, the lyrics are quite abstract though, but if thoroughly understood, you can see the sad message inside. The audience banged their heads to the riff, since almost everybody in the place listened to Mind, Blood of Wecz, and Black Gold Reign. The chorus is made up of a crescendo of instruments with Troy’s voice imitating the progression; the chorus ends with Troy singing in a high C5 note scream followed by the intro riff again. The song’s solo is consisted of Troy playing rhythm, JC playing the whammy and Carl playing the distorted guitar; these different riffs, when put together, form one new sounding riff which the fans moshed to. The song then slows down to the outro where Troy and JC’s distorted guitar have a duet, Troy sings the last few lines of the song, imitating the sound of the bluesy riff JC was currently playing.

Troy: Thank you Teignmouth, you have been a very great audience! We would like to thank all of you who have supported the band throughout the whole competition. We hope to win this battle but I see really tough competition. Well good luck to Mind and Blood of Wecz, both really great live acts, I just want to say thank you for giving us a great challenge and we are glad to lose to you guys cause I know you deserve it! Well this next and final song is also found from our Blur EP. This is dedicated to all my friends who have stabbed me from behind when I wasn’t even aware, it’s called Backstabber...

The song, as Troy described it, is about people who he though were friends but then betrayed him at the moment he needed them the most. The intro of the song is consisted of a distorted guitar progression played by all 3 guitarists, another slapped bassline by JPC which he would be playing for the whole song, and Tristan’s complex drumming. The verse is sung by Troy with only the bass and drums as accompaniment giving that groovy feel to the song. The chorus is played with the intro’s chord progression, only this time with lyrics and Carl's high pitched back up vocals. The second verse is played with the same arrangement of the first one but with muted guitar strums played by JC and Carl, it is followed by JC’s fill which leads to the chorus one more time. The chorus is followed by a bridge consisted of semi-spoken lyrics by Troy and the bass and drum combo by JPC and Tristan, it is followed by aggressively strummed chords leading to a solo played by JC and accompanied by Carl and Troy's famous "wall of noise". The song then leads to one final bridge and the chorus to end it all with Troy and Carl sharing vocal duties and JC playing randomly picked notes. The song ends to the loud applause of the crowd and as the band put down their instruments they all dive off the stage and into the arms of the audience who warmly accept them as they chant their name.. RECKONER! RECKONER!

"It doesn't matter if we win or we lose, the most important thing we have done throughout the competition is give it all we got to the people, we know that we have made all of them happy and I think that's enough to say we are winners.."
-Troy Mascenon

Best Performance in Alternative Music - The Strom

The strom have put out four album's this year all sounding different from each other. The 1st album which was self-titled Had a very dark thrash metal sound such as heard in the song The Lost land. There 2nd album called speed metal was as you can tell speed metal. There 3rd album Last of menkind was more of a prog metal album and there 1st Concept album it also had alot more guitar solos then all the other strom albums. There 4th album The eye is the 1st with new singer Ray bell the album was a tech thrash metal album it was ment to be more like there 1st album but with rays voice and Ben's new sounding amp and guitar made the album sound more weird then all the other strom album's.

Best Band: The Verdict Is Vengeance

In the past year The Verdict Is Vengeance have gone from being unknown, and through their own hard work they have become one of the biggest bands in England. The debut album Liberation sent the band into mainstream popularity, with it selling over 1million copies to date. Recently the band have been going on tour around the world with Chimera and have recently released a new EP with the new line-up set. Lies Make You Famous has showed a new edge to the band who have been hitting the top of the charts with their single Beautiful and being made a headlining act on the Comatose Stage at Animal Fest, the band looks to be going from strength to strength.

Dark Secret Love by, Ryan Ross Hernandez
Final Sales: 4,468,781

"The album is called Dark Secret Love and that's because it incorporates a lot of the lessons, a lot of the observations, and a little bit of advice. Like a heartbreak handbook."

Best Single:

"A Never-Ending Trip to Heartbreak" by, Ryan Ross Hernandez
Final Sales: 1,784,474

In Game Info: http://www.therockstarga...single.asp?SingleID=8492

Lyrical Meaning

"The first track off the album, and I think it was like the second or third song I wrote for the record. After I had written it I knew I had a direction for the record. It sort-of brought together, very cohesively what I was trying to achieve with the idea of heartbreak and love, sort-of bringing that war-feel to a heartbreak. When you can't get through to somebody by loving them, the next choice is to get through to them hurting them and that is what A Never-Ending Trip to Heartbreak, is about. I don't recommend it. I'd recommend full-on global thermal nuclear war, before I'd recommend trying to make a lady jealous on purpose. It doesn't end well."

Music and structure

The song marked some changes from the music that Ryan Ross Hernandez was known for, which was the soft blues influence in his previous albums. Songs like this song from Dark Secret Love, along with "Love Is Really Nothing But a Dream" and "Fight On Until the Darkness Over Takes Us" went more towards Hernandez's more rock-oriented sound, which he showed more on Dark Secret Love.

Musically, the guitar riff and overall sound are very similar to the U2 song "Bad". Hernandez has admitted that while "A Never-Ending Trip to Heartbreak" may in fact resemble "Bad", he was not intentionally referencing it while composing his song.

"Life Is Just a Ferris Wheel" by, Ryan Ross Hernandez
Final Sales: 1,725,041

In Game Info: http://www.therockstarga...single.asp?SingleID=9145

Lyrical Meaning

Hernandez wrote this song after deleting numbers out of his cell phone that he knew he would more than likely never call again. He was doing so, in an airport, while waiting for his flight. While doing so, he was present to see US Army soldiers being shipped off to the War in Afghanistan. He was able to see their families saying their goodbye's. This experience provided the inspiration for the song.

This song sends an inspiring message that the things in your life are just a season. Even though times may be rough it is all part of life's cycle and as Ryan hints love, happiness, success, etc. may be just "around the bend." It's just about how life goes on, even if you don't notice it, if you just stop for a second and look around you'll see that the world keeps moving, that life goes on, that while you stop your life, others are living it. IT hurts to realize that because all you do is wonder how can everyone around seem so normal and keep on with their lives and their everyday activities while you're in so much pain and it seems like nothing will ever be the same - at least to you.

The song was written for his acting debut "Something's Missing,". It was released as a single on December 19th and is the first commercial single in Hernandez's career that was not originally released on one of his albums.

OOC: Only going for two, they're the only feasible ones it seems, at least in terms of winning, plus, they're the only ones I've put any work into. Anyways, 4th time goin' at Best Newcomer, let's see if I can finally squeeze outta win, eh?

Best Newcomer - Junkhead

The brainchild of guitarist Stanley Vince and frontman Luke Haley, Aberdeen, WA natives Junkhead have managed to pioneer a fresh, new musical style amongst the underground scene, one which has spread like wild fire around the lesser known territories of music in the past few months. Their intense devotion to their craft has produced what some consider a musical gem, a masterpiece that covers a wide array of musical genres, smashing the borders between punk, sludge metal, grunge and acoustic rock. This "masterpiece" is entitled, 'Long Dead Plastic Scene, EP', an homage of sorts to Pantera that @Chaos magazine has labeled "superb". Between the underground hysteria of 'Long Dead Plastic Scene', intensive interviewing and relentless tours that cross US, ranging from clubs and garages of 250 fans to arenas of thousands upon thousands of Quarantine fanatics, Junkhead have staked their claim in the underground world, and, in the words of Stanley Vince, it's "guaran-fucking-teed" they're gonna keep on moving.
