Melissa Parker:

Drummer and Lead Singer.
Comes from Albany, New York.
Melissa got her start in music by playing drums at her local high school. She played for leisure and worked with her older brother in the duo, Hello Hello Hello. She's still active with Hello Hello Hello but through her Brother she got an invite to a party. Which is where she met Samantha, Matthew and Elizabeth. They scheduled a couple of practices which led to a couple of live shows. After gaining a small amount of money they managed to schedule a time to record with underground producer Louie "Papa Doc" Tippens. That's where Token for Luck comes in.

Samantha Gilmore(Peters):

Bassist.
Comes from Seattle, Washington. (Married to Matthew)
Coming from a rich family, Samantha has been all over the world. She hails from Seattle, Washington where she attended private school while 18. She'd been learning the flute for a long time but switched to Bass when her boyfriend Lyle asked her to join his band. They broke up a short while later but she still liked the guitar and began freelancing for several underground artists. This is where she met Matthew Gilmore, the guitarist for a band called "Oh No, Tokyo Destruction". Tokyo Destruction broke up after three or so weeks of underground touring and Matthew met Hello Hello Hello during those tours. Together Sam and Matt went to a party where they met Elizabeth Downs as well. The rest was as it is.

Backing Vocals and Lead Guitar
Comes from Seattle Washington. (Married to Samantha)
Matthew was born in Olympia(don't tell anyone) but moved to Seattle at the age of 1. By 10 he was enthralled by Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Nirvana. He picked up a guitar and put it down learning the trumpet for awhile. At the age of 15 he played with the Ska Band, "RuckusMakers". After a year with them he picked the guitar back up and began playing with 3 schoolyard friends in "Tokyo Destruction". He met up with Samantha Gilmore and Hello Hello Hello on tour(never really talked to Melissa until the party.). After Tokyo Destruction broke up, Samantha and Matthew began dating. They attended a party where at they met Melissa and Elizabeth. The four began their band and so on. Matthew and Samantha got married in Ithaca, New York on September 11th, 2009.

Currently they've got this weird Dirty Projectors/Animal Collective Experimental Rock sound that we're sure you might find weird. It's fun and everything. (Thanks to Osprey for reminding me)

Demo: TOKEN FOR LUCK by GIFTSTAR

TYPICAL LIVES, written by Matthew Gilmore and Melissa Parker:
(slow tempo)
My voice will be the remedy for your heart
Letting you know when to kick-start
My fragile hopes of dreaming
Your words tell that you know what I'm thinking
Grab hold of my life's threads.....
So when she said....

(Chorus):
Let us go on with our Typical Lives
Trying to keep my heart alive!
(tempo moves to upbeat)
No more hesitation
no more limitations
Only me reaching into the silence
Now I refer to you in past tense

As I sit upon these unlit stars
I find myself dreaming
Giving myself a needed pause
I stop....thinking
Words can't describe my feelings
But I think...you're truly the first person I hate

(Chorus)

So when it's time to live our typical lives
You can find me trying to survive
(End)

CAREFUL WORDS Written by Melissa Parker(Solo singer on this one):

(slow tempo with only light guitar strums)
Varied Interest
In my souls deep blue rest
(clap)
Call upon my peaceful regret
With gentle footsteps
I let my heart do the talking, word by word
As my soul ascends slowly like a bird
(clap, the light strums turn heavy as drumming begins)

(Chorus): Words are irrelevant
So just take a hint
and leave(x2)

Can you see
The chain that bind me
To this fantasy
So when I hold thee
My memories flow over
Of times when you were sober

(Chorus)

Find Me
Find My Hope
Lowly
Downward Slope
Find It....
Find
(End)

TOKEN FOR LUCK written by Melissa Parker and sung by her(short song):

Selfishly striving on my own desires
When the world erupted in fire
Thought you could amend by preaching to the choir
Now you're hanging like a bird on a wire
So just burn...
Never learn...
Just burn...
Never learn...
Yeah.
(end)

Token For Luck was released today and we're quite indifferent about it. We sold a pretty good 15,480 units. That was good enough for us so thanks to people who support our music. We've been thinking about speeding up the whole "Make an Album" process so we're currently attempting to sign onto a label. We're also trying to come up with an Album Title that sounds snazzy enough for all of you cool cats. Stay frosty people who feel indifferent about us or...y'know don't?

Yeah we were talking around and around and around until we came full circle and signed with this label.

SHOOTING STAR RECORDS is now a label we're proud to be a part of. We really don't have any other news so yeah. Oh wait I think we might be doing a couple of small time shows for a pretty cheap price in a bit.

Albums and Two Mini Gigs

So we decided to get working on that album of ours and we even came up with a Tentative title, "Present Plant". The title has no meaning but we're open for perceptions. To further our commitment to making this album we wrote a song, "White Dress, Teen Mess". It's essentially about a Prom so, yeah.

Also we're doing a quick two tour set at a couple of local bars and small time clubs. Ticket price is two bucks for those of you willing t pay anything. Until then it's been real-ish. Oh yeah we're also looking to open for other bands and stuff. If your band needs someone to open for them feel free to request in any way, shape or form.

Quote:
It has been confirmed this morning that the person taking over from Max Armstrong as lead singer of 4th Street Band will be Melissa Park from a fairly new band called GiftStar, she will however only be covering the four gigs from September 5 - October 7 2010, the band will be performing the expected 4th Street Band songs but will also perform a couple of Giftstar tracks which will be incorporated into the set.
Therefore from October 10 onwards the frontman of the band will be a good friend of the band and the man discovered by Max himself, Mr Jack Frost, he will join up with the band on 8th October before heading over to Max's home state of New Jersey for the gigs at East Rutherford and during Jack's time as frontman the band will also play a couple of Jack's songs as well as the expected 4th Street Band songs, There will be a very special show on November 28th at New York City's Madison Square Garden, it is going to be epic so if you haven't bought tickets to it already get buying because you won't want to miss it

Our very own Melissa Parker will be performing with the famous 4th Street band! We're very proud to have her play with this prestigious band. We're also happy to see that Jack Frost will be on the lineup which is another reason that we'll be attending the tour.

Lucy: Yeah you make sure to do that, when she returns. Thanks, I'm glad you think so, most people only notice Max up there but we know he's the main attraction and we just get on with the job.

(OOC: Nice attention to detail, did you look at the 4th Street Band website? people don't generally know what instruments the other members play.)

In my opinion, to be a truly great band all the instruments have to come together. As a Guitarist I like to identify other guitarists that I actively listen to and support them. You're one of those Guitarists.
-Matthew

(OOC: Yeah I looked on the 4th Street site, I like to do a little research when I'm writing about a band, so it shouldn't be any different when I'm writing about another person's band. Thanks for the compliment.)

Melancholy Road: Complete

We came up with a name for that new album, Melancholy Road. Oh yeah we also completed it. It might be awesomely horrible. We don't have a release date, but we do have prospective artwork:
UserPostedImage

Hope you enjoy.

OOC: I have no idea how to use Photoshop or Photofiltre so I did the completely unoriginal thing and chose the LAST SEVEN DAYS option on Flickr for an album cover. If anyone could help me or anything that'd be really awesome. On a sidenote Mallory did my Logo so another big thanks to her. The rights of this photo belong to findstuff22 of Photobucket.

Thanks man, if you like our demo then you should like Melancholy Road. We've been talking to our webmaster and we'll be leaked a song on here before we release the album. Also if you like GIFTSTAR, catch Melissa Parker with the 4th Street Band, but don't stop there! We're going to be at some of the Jack Frost + 4th Street Band shows so if you wanna ever chat face to face, that's the place.

Double Song Punch
You already know that Melancholy Road is coming out, so we're leaking two of the song right here, right now.

Get 'em inaplaceIdon'treallyknowabout

Melancholy Road is the path you walk down when something pretty bad happens but you don't know whether to be depressed or ecstatic. More about the songs though...

One's a cover of Brave as a Noun by the Andrew Jackson Jihad(sang by Elizabeth Downs)

I could go off the deep end,
I can kill all my best friends.
I can follow those stylish trends.
God knows I can make amends.
But I've got an angry heart filled with cancer and poppy tarts.
If this is how you folks make art, its fucking depressing.

And its sad to know that we are not alone and its sad to know there's no honest way out.

Im afraid to leave the house,
Im as timid as a mouse.
Im afraid if I go on I'll out wear my welcome.
Im not a courageous man.
I dont have any big, lasting plans.
Too cowardly to take a stand, I want to keep my nose clean.

And its sad to know that we are not alone in this, and its said to know there's no honest way out.

In this life we lead, we can conquer every thing, if we could just get the braves to get out of bed in the morning.

Melancholy Road, written by Matthew Gilmore(sang by Matthew Gilmore):

Chorus: Melancholy Road
Is a place where I'm left to wander
Melancholy Road
Where the lightning meets my thunder
Melancholy Road
Where they leave my thoughts to roam asunder
Melancholy Road
And I look up with an expression of wonder

On this night
My final days will generate
My final rites
If these final days are anything to indicate
I. HATE. YOU.
I wish I could put it better
I love you too
Could've sent me a Dear John Letter

(Chorus)

And I reach out once more
To only grasp nothing
Upon my life's door
Waiting for its opening
Waiting for the final moment
Holding on to what's left
What's left that's relevant
When I fall into those shallow depths

(Chorus)
(end)

I love experimental music. The only genre that breaks free from all the mainstream bullshit, all kiss-ass fans, and all the problems with the stalkers (paparazzi). This was a great choice of music to play, no boundaries, anything you want can be done. Expect me to come back here soon cause I know what I like when I see it.

Well experimental music is a bit less of a hassle. I guess one of our goals is to make a DiY label somewhere along the line so that we can try for a whole label with the experimental feel. Glad you like the music though.
