Privacy

I am one person running this game from the UK. This page is the short, honest version of what I hold about you and what happens to it when you leave. The full policy, with the legal wording and the list of the services I use, is on the public site.

What I hold about you

Your login, your email address and a one-way hash of your password. I never store or see the password itself.
Whatever you filled in on Manager Settings: your name and your town, if you gave them.
If you sign in with Facebook or Google, the account id they give me, plus your name and address. Nothing else, and I never post anything.
If you link Patreon, your Patreon id and an encrypted token so I can re-check your membership. Never a card number.
Whether you want game emails, and your browser's time zone.
Everything your bands do: names, songs, releases, artwork, tours, messages, chart positions, honours.
If you arrived on somebody's referral link: the band whose link it was, when you clicked it, and a one-way hash of the IP address it came from, so that nobody can refer themselves. The cookie (rg.ref) lasts 30 days, the last link you clicked is the one that counts, and it is deleted the moment you create a band. Never the address itself.

What is public by design

Band names, releases, chart positions, certifications, awards and achievements.
Your login as a handle on your trophy cabinet, and the year you joined.
Anything you post in the feed, in a group or in a message to another player.

That is the point of a shared world with charts in it. Your email address, your real name, your town and your date of birth are never shown to anybody.

Closing your account

You can close it yourself from Manager Settings, or by following the link at the foot of any email I send you. The link only ever opens a page: nothing closes until you press the button on it.
Closing it locks the login, retires every band you hold, ends any deal they are signed to, winds up a label you own and cuts any Patreon connection.
I stop emailing you at that moment, permanently. I keep a one-way hash of your address, and nothing else, purely so that I can recognise it and never send to it again.
I email you once to confirm, with a link that puts the whole thing back. That link works for thirty days.
Winding up a label is the one part the undo cannot reverse: the bands signed to it were told they were free agents, and its treasury is forfeited.

What is erased after thirty days

Your email address, your name, your login, your town, your country and your date of birth.
Your password hash, so there is nothing left to log in with.
Your Facebook, Google and Patreon connections, and the encrypted Patreon token.
On each of your bands: the contact details, the notes, the biography and any pictures you uploaded.

This is not reversible and there is no copy of it afterwards. It happens automatically on the night the thirty days are up, whether or not anybody remembers to run anything.

What stays, and why

Band names, releases, chart positions, certifications, awards, achievements and tour history. This world has run since 2001, the players voted to keep it, and a chart is not a chart with rows torn out of it.
Messages you sent other people. Those are in their inboxes and they are theirs now.
Records of money that actually changed hands: donations and the Founder's Licence. I have to be able to account for those.
The one-way hash of your email address, so I can keep the promise never to write to you again.

None of that names you. After the erasure, nothing in the game connects a band to a person.

Anything else

You can turn the emails off on their own, without closing anything, from Manager Settings or the unsubscribe link in any of them.
If you want a copy of what I hold, or something corrected, or the whole lot gone sooner, ask me and I will do it by hand.
Write to [email protected] or use the contact page.
