Born in the dusty interior of Minas Gerais and raised amid the humid, vinyl-heavy record shops of São Paulo, Clara Mendes is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Armed with a battered national resonator guitar, a vintage suitcase converted into a kick-drum/percussion stomp box, and a voice that sounds like weathered leather and bourbon, she single-handedly bridges the deep-south Delta blues with the melancholy soul of Brazilian modinha and samba-canção.
Her sound is raw, hypnotic, and deeply hypnotic—blending heavy fingerpicking slide blues with Portuguese lyricism that tells tales of midnight trains, restless ghosts, and riverbanks. Operating entirely as a one-woman powerhouse, she commands the stage with foot-stomping percussion and soulful wails, proving that the blues doesn't belong to just one geography; it belongs to anyone with a heavy heart and a story to tell.
