Straight from the frost-bitten taiga of Chibougamau, Charançon du tronc des pins is French Canada’s most stubborn alt-country export. Named after the timber-chewing beetles that infested their freezing recording cabin, this four-piece crew serves up a fiery cocktail of bluegrass, honky-tonk, and rugged northern grit.

Meet the lineup: Jean-Luc Tremblay on gritty vocals and acoustic guitar, Rosalie Bouchard driving the five-string banjo, Antoine Lavoie sawing the fiddle, and Marc-André Gauthier thumping an upright bass built for sub-zero survival.

Born from endless winter nights, diesel fumes, and a lost box of Waylon Jennings tapes found in a sawmill breakroom, they’re the only band brave—or crazy—enough to cross traditional Québécois folk with outlaw country.
